Overlooking the River Valcarce, 500 metres from the centre of Mediaeval Villafranca del Bierzo, Hostal Restaurante Méndez is on the Santiago Pilgrimage Route. It offers free Wi-Fi in public areas. The staff were fantastic at check-in and the meals were not only delicious but they were substantial. Price was good too. Definitely do the breakfast it was definitely what you need to walk the Camino. The location was great if you're doing the Camino but please note there is no air conditioning in the rooms so if you are going in summer is is hot.

Small, cozy rooms with a stunning view of the river and the town, an excellent breakfast, and a super convenient location if you’re planning to start a long, good day on the Camino. The hotel is located right on the route.

“I would never book here again.”
I booked 4 months in advance and 3-4 weeks out, they let me know that they have a large tour group arriving, and they can’t accommodate me anymore.

The location was at the end of town on the Camino which was perfect to minimise the distance on the 28km day up to O Cebreiro.

Friendly well run place. I had a triple room which was a few metres down the road from the restaurant. Restaurant was recommended by several people but I went to bed early.

Lovely spot right next to the river. Clean and comfortable. Shower was over the bath tub and was a mini sized bath. Hard to stand inside it. But a minor issue. Overall very nice and comfortable
