Lal was a wonderful kind and thoughtful man who took his hosting to the highest standards. Beds super comfy. He booked kayaking for us and helped with transport arrangements. Wonderful watching the wildlife on an evening and the amazing fruit bats fly it was a peaceful place. We enjoyed it very much.

“Peaceful, friendly homestay”

We arranged to stay here at short notice after an AirBnb experience gone wrong - within half an hour of us booking on booking.com, Mr Lal had got back to us, arranged a tuktuk to pick us up and had arranged early check-in so we could relax after a bad nights sleep. Following our arrival all bad memories were erased as we were in such a relaxing, peaceful and calm environment with an exceptional host. We loved the rooms, with exceptional linen and a strong minimalist vibe. The homestay is in a great location, away from the busy bits of Varkala and in a peaceful lane where you can hear lots of birds at sunset. Mr Lal cooked us two delicious meals, a highlight of our trip, and was great company - we loved chatting to him about India and hearing his tales. We would love to come back and are very grateful for Mr Lal's help - thank you!

It is blissfully simple and contemporary and has everything anyone could ask for. It is in a quiet road yet easy walking distance to shops, the beach and a key pilgrimage temple with its temple elephant ! And only a few minutes I. A tuctuc to the busy and vibrant tourist centre and the other beaches. Lal was always available and always always cheerful and helpful - what an amazing host. I felt like I was warmly welcomed into his home. I also enjoyed meeting the other guests and we shared dinner together. Lal helped me with my decision about where to do day trips to and booked taxis for me!

“Fantastic homestay, superb hosts”

Although the property itself is very nice, new, clean and comfortable. The difference in experience is amplified by its superb, excellent English speaking host. The Ixora offers rooms connected but seperate from the main house where the host lives and where you have breakfast, lunch and or dinner. The shower was remarkable as well; hot & strong pressure which is not the standard in India. The location is perfect, you can walk to the stunning beaches and restaurants. The in-house prepared food was great too, lovely diverse breakfast, but equally delicious food was served for dinner on request, which is all prepared in-house. If we ever come back to Varkala, this is where we would stay. Don’t book just 2 nights like we did, stay a little longer & unwind. You’ll love it.

Everything about Ixora was wonderful and Lal, our kind and attentive host, made our stay truly special. The rooms are spotless and spacious, the veranda is perfect for relaxing under the palm trees and the food was excellent. Lal’s thoughtful details and great advice for exploring Varkala made everything easy and enjoyable. Highly recommended!

The owner of the property Mr. Lal attended us for all the concerns we had and even arranged an auto driver for us to commute within the city. Also he made us bookings for the boating and kayaking at the Shiva Kayaking located around 8 kms away from the property.

Somehow when we visited it was raining, we managed to get the hot water from the kitchen to serve the kids bathing. Adults have managed to take bath in the cold water on the rainy day. I enjoyed that too. Thanks Mr.Lal for hosting our stay.

“A peaceful and pleasant stay”

A place of serenity....amazing hospitality, good food, and, I must say one of the best vanilla cakes we had...all this was possible because of Mr. Lal - A man who runs this entire show single-handedly yet welcomes all his guests with a warm big smile. His suggestions are great starting from driver Deepu, who was not only excellent at his job but also a great guide, auto driver Rony who was always available on a call, and mostly the Cafe trip is life which was just awesome...He always makes you feel comfortable and at home with his conversations. Heartfelt thanks for these 4 days at Ixora and for taking care of us.

We had a wonderful stay at Ixora. The rooms were very clean and nicely maintained, it had all the facilities that are required for a Vacation. Not having a TV inside the room was a blessing since we were able to spend a lot of time outside the rooms in the verandah. The bed was comfortable and easily accommodated the 2 of us with a 5 year old kid. The food offered was tasty and home cooked, our daughter enjoyed thoroughly having food in the dining place. Mr Lal our host helped us fully with planning our days in Varkala and was a wonderful person to have around.

What can be said about our stay at the Ixora that hasn’t been said about staying with a good friend for a few days? We have never felt more welcome and at home during a vacation anywhere. Let’s start with the basics - the rooms are brand new, spacious and spotless, water pressure is excellent. The location is the perfect distance from the hustle and bustle of the beach to be a quiet, peaceful retreat. A 15 minute walk will have you right by the water. But there is so much more. I recommend you opt for the dinner at least once during your stay because it is excellent! Fresh and authentic Indian food served by a passionate professional. We had dinner every night for 5 nights and it was always a great joy. Which brings us to our host. Now here is someone who clearly loves what he is doing and does it so extremely well. Lal is the most hospitable, courteous, generous host. We talked for hours about everything and anything. He took care of us in a way that makes us in equal parts sad we had to leave and excited to come back very soon. I have only praise for this location and its host. Be prepared to be wowed and to fall in love with it. Our first visit to Kerala was enjoyable in every way and that is in large part due to stays in excellent places such as this one. Easy 10/10.
