“A very relaxing place to stay, surrounded by well tended gardens”

Excellent location in fabulous gardens which are full of beautiful birds and hummingbirds. Amazing views and sunsets. Staff are professional, respectful, friendly and helpful. We took their guided quetzal tour and saw a male and female repeatedly returning to their nest.

My wife and I stayed there from February 26th to 28th, 2026. We received an extremely warm welcome. We had a beautiful superior bungalow with a fantastic view. We especially enjoyed the lovely gardens and, of course, the hummingbird garden. We were able to take truly perfect photos of numerous species there. One morning, we took a tour to see the quetzal, which was also excellent. The lodge's restaurant also deserves special mention. We booked breakfast and dinner there on two days, and the food was absolutely delicious. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and it exceeded our expectations.

“Great location high up in cloud forest.”

Comfortable wooden cabin. Excellent restaurant (but a little pricey). Very good trails in cloud forest around hotel. Viewpoints, lovely garden, numerous bird-life. Hummingbird feeding station attracts lots of them.

“Great location to explore the national park - but expensive and not comfortable”

Location was perfect for exploring the national park, beautiful view from our suite. Staff were lovely. Hummingbird garden was a highlight, plenty of well maintained trails. Saw a Quetzal on one of their offered tours.

“A paradise for birdwatchers with spectacular views”

We absolutely loved our stay at Paraiso Quetzal Lodge. We were blown away by the beautiful grounds and spectacular views over the valley. It really was like paradise. All the plants and flowers were the perfect home for a broad range of birds and we could spend hours just wandering around the paths and spotting all the different birds. If you are into your birdwatching then this is the place for you! The views from the cabin were exceptional and we could hear and see the birds flying around. The cabin was clean, big and comfortable, and warmed up nicely during the day with the sun shining in. Yes, it does get cold at night, but that is not an issue at all as long as you go prepared and bring some thermals for the night - this combined with the plentiful blankets and space heaters should be fine. The food at the restaurant was good, although you do need to pre-order your dinner on the day, but that is understandable given the remote location. There was a good choice for breakfast too and it was lovely to eat while admiring the view. It was cosy at night too with the big fireplace. The hummingbird garden was a real treat - the number of different hummingbirds was fantastic. But you don't really need to go to that garden to see hummingbirds - they are everywhere around the grounds along with lots and lots of other wonderful birds. We went on the early morning quetzal tour and our guide, David, really went above and beyond to find us some quetzals to see - we got to see a male and female which was really special. We also managed to see a quetzal flying over the car park at the lodge on our last morning. There are a number of trails you can take as well - we just went on the Colibri one which was lovely and took us past a small waterfall. The staff were super friendly and helpful and Kevin helped us with our transport from and to San Isidro which all went smoothly and was well organised. I really cannot recommend this accommodation enough, especially for the birds!

“Brilliant place to see birds and walk safely through the Costa Rica rainforest”

The staff were very helpful and friendly. We stayed in a Superior Bungalow which had magnificent views so a good place to be when it rained. Staff gave us a lesson in how to use the spa so could have a soak when it was cold & rainy outside. Room was super clean & food in restaurant tasty. We stayed for 6 days, did the walking trails each day and saw heaps of birds.

Unfortunately we didn’t enjoy our stay and left after one night.

“Magical location and wildlife”

The cloud forest location was exceptional and you can see multitudes of birds from your cabin as well as beautiful cloudy sunsets & mountains. The trails you can walk from the property are magical and full of lush vegetation and ancient trees and waterfalls. The staff were extremely helpful and kind. We took the 5am tour to see Quetzals and though busy the guide was ace and we saw several.

Nice biew of the valley. Various interestig trails starting closeby.Good dinner. Early morning quetzal tour very good, gudes made a big effort so we could see the quetzales.

“Great place for bird watching”

Views from the cabin and restaurant, gardens teeming with birds, hummingbird garden, trails through the property for seeing birds and waterfalls, old growth trail. Resplendent quetzal flew right into tree next to cabin. Restaurant dinners were excellent.

Amazing views, balcony and seats in front of our room. A heater and extra blankets as it can be cold at this high altitude location. A lovely area with humming bird feeders in the garden. Nice restaurant. Best of all the hotel arranged a guided trip to see a quetzal!

The bird watching tour was very good. We succeeded in seeing several Quetzals thanks to our guide David The trails around the property are pretty nice as well and the restaurant cozy and serving very good food.
