This "private guest house," perhaps seen on Google Maps as the location Bookstore Ichi Cafe and Bar, feels more like a hostel with its small private rooms, but considering the price in relation to other places in Kinosaki it is worth it. The rooms have bunkbeds, so this is best for groups of 3 or 4.

“Super cool staff and great guesthouse”

I had a great time here in this guesthouse. The owner was super kind and always made me feel at home. The room was spacious and the bed very comfortable. There is also a super chill atmosphere in the lobby ! I would definitely come back here if I returned to Kinosaki onsen:)

Love the space. I was one person, but the room was not small. It’s also not crowded at all, I rarely saw other roomers, and my room was right next to the toilet, so it was convenient. It is not center in Kinosaki, but it was right next to kanagi -yu and the ropeway which was beautiful. The owner was also very nice, greeted me warmly and was happy to chat.

We booked a room for 2 with bathroom. Received an email 2 days before arrival saying there is no private bathroom - in fact the entire property has no bathroom, just a toilet downstairs for everyone to share. We were then allocated a tiny room with 2 bunkbeds and not enough room to swing a mouse (see photos). There was a lot of noise (room just above kitchen with holes in floorboards and talking loudly long into the night), a lot or light that could not be blocked out from hallway, very dusty (room had not been cleaned properly for a long time), very uncomfortable beds. It was absolutely shocking and nothing like the photos. By far the worst accommodation we had in Japan and the only time I was disappointed so I do not have unrealistic expectations. Essentially it was a really bad hostel experience charging hotel prices. Upon request to the owners on the last night they transferred us into a much better room which was empty - why they didnt do this automatically is beyond me. So disappointed - my wife was in tears when she saw the first room - it was false advertising at its finest. I could go on..internet didnt work etc ..but have said enough.
