“Awesome quiet and friendly lodge a boat ride from Tortuguero town.”

Initially worried having picked this accommodation 10+ minutes (by boat) north of Tortuguero proper this turned out to be a fantastic place. Friendly host, nice swimming pool, great food, and a top class guide we did some tours with.

“Nice but not my cup of tea”

I do regret not searching for the location before I booked. It was ok, but it was not in Tortuguero. Do not stay here if you do not speak spanish. Communication was challenging. It did encourage me to learn the language in the future for situations like that. I will say that Gloria and her family were kind. Morton, our tour guide was knowledgeable. He spoke English with a patois, which sounded really cool and added to the experience.

“Great accommodation and amazing tours!”

The property itself was great and exactly as expected from the reviews and photos. Basic accommodation but clean and comfortable. Breakfast was really great and the tours were amazing! Did both the night and early morning tours and they were definitely the highlight so can highly recommend them. We also loved being in amongst the community and the kids loved all the dogs that are hanging around every where. The boat from La Pavona dropped us off and picked us up right outside the accommodation too so is very easy to get to with your luggage.

Great service and friendly too. Lovely pool and clean room. Visiting this area is an experience- not like anywhere else I have ever been. They sorted out tours for us which were great.

“Great start to our holiday and wonderful introduction to Costa Rica”

Nice cabanas away from the more busy areas. Host was very welcoming and sorted out many excursions for us.

“Clean and comfortable accommodation with amazing hosts and fantastic tours”

We had a wonderful stay at Cabanas Daneysha. Gloria and Sergio were amazing hosts and made our stay a really comfortable one. Our room was clean and comfortable, and Gloria made us a lovely breakfast each morning. There is seating on the verandah and hammocks around the grounds to relax in. The real highlights of our stay were the canal and night tours with Sergio - Sergio was fantastic at spotting and getting us close to the amazing wildlife in the canals, and it was clear to see his passion for the area and the wildlife. They were both really special experiences and Sergio was the perfect guide! The accommodation is in the San Francisco area which is a boat ride away from the centre of Tortuguero but there were restaurant options and a supermarket in easy walking distance and Sergio and Gloria also were super helpful in helping us get to and from the centre of Tortuguero by boat. We highly recommend this accommodation and especially the tours for those who want to see and appreciate the varied wildlife and birds that the area has to offer.

Sergio's tours (both morning and night boat) were the highlights of our trip to Costa Rica. Similar wildlife tours in Monteverde and Manuel Antonio have not come close in terms of guide quality. He is clearly very passionate about the wildlife. Gloria's breakfasts left a similar impression! We will miss her traditional breakfasts which while common in style in the other areas we have visited, were not replicated in quality! This was a lovely family host experience and we look forward to coming back one day. Pura vida :)

“Very pleasant, good people, great location”

Great location in San Francisco, a small village a boat ride away from Tortuguero . Hosts were very helpful. Breakfast was great, canal rides are a must as this is what Tortuguero has to offer. Tortuguero mountain is a 10 minute walk away. Not really a mountain but a series of steps up to a fine view point.

From the moment we arrived to the moment we left we had the most amazing time. Gloria, with the lovely smile, makes the best breakfasts and is always around to help with anything you need and Sergio is an incredible tour guide (we did both a day and a night boat trip and saw so much wildlife including a puma and a tapir! The room was comfy and clean and the swimming pool perfect in the afternoon San francisco is amazing. So friendly. There are a few tiny restaurants and a super market. You can walk to the “cerro” to see monkeys and much more and there is a taxi bus to tortuguero

Gloria and her family are extremely nice and welcoming! We especially enjoyed the canal tour with her husband, which was very individual and much better than commercial tours. The room was simple and clean. In general, San Francisco is a very nice and quiet village with a few very nice and authentic restaurants and bars - contrasting the crowded Tortuguero town. We enjoyed our two nights stay a lot!!

“Amazing”

Gloria is the most fabulous host. She and her family are so friendly and accommodating - she really makes sure you have the most relaxing holiday. The swimming pool was a real treat too.

Lovely quiet location outside tortuguero, friendly owner and great tours. Pool was a bonus!

Really comfortable beds, great breakfasts. The tours were amazing Sergio went to so much effort to make sure we saw as many birds and animals as possible. Seeing the turtles nesting was really special.

Extremely friendly staff. Gloria and Sergio were very helpful responsive and welcoming. The turtle tour is excellent. And very moving.
