“Kind host, great for solo travelers!”

A great social hostel with Jij being the kindest host! He is so friendly and welcomes everyone warmly. Beds were comfy, water pressure and temperature were great. Location was good too, approx 7 -10 min walk to Kanda station, and approx 35 min from Haneda Airport. There are lots of restaurants, convenience stores, and izakayas around the hostel. It's great value at this price point at a very central part of tokyo with free breakfast! If you want to meet friends as a solo traveler, this hostel is great!

“Questionable hostel”

This is a hard one as I am a permanent traveler and visit about 200 hostels a year so I will give my honest review about this property because I chose this property by reading the reviews and they were all good but I experienced it different. The location is okay, 15 min walk from Tokyo train station, its a business area quiet at night, convenience stores around and multiple restaurants in different price ranges, the owner is a lovely 82 yrs old Japanese who travelled in his younger years and probably started this hostel some years ago. There is no space in the hostel I think that's the main thing what bothered me, you can not even call it cozy small, there is just no space as the owner stocks on stuff and doesn't organise the place! WIFI in dorm is not working properly, beds are layered with 2 thin matrasses, cleaning is questionable as yes the bins are emptied but bathrooms and floor are not clean with multiple guest coming in and out I think it is unhygienic. Now the owner focuses mainly on putting a small free breakfast in place every morning in that tiny space where he wants to gather the guests which ofcourse is a nice gesture but hardly people came down for the breakfast, sad I feel, his communication is a problem here. I think I became claustrofobic in that place and it made my stay in Tokyo different then I expected but yeah a traveler needs to be flexible all the time so I survived my 4 nights, next time I will definitely check at least 20 reviews before booking a property!

Good location.

Jij is an amazing person. He made me feel very welcome, and I had such a lovely stay. I also met wonderful people there, which made the experience even better. It’s a great spot if you want to connect with others, enjoy a nice atmosphere, and stay in a very convenient location.

The owner was very chatty and kind. Location very close to tokyo station.

Jiji is such a nice and caring host!

Great location for both metro and train with many different lines in less than 10mins walk. The hostel facilities is basic but enough for what you need. A drink with grandpa owner and others was a nice treat after a long day out to explore Tokyo.

“Welcoming”

Ojii San was very welcoming, he's curious and a talkative person. Perfect for trying my basic broken Japanese. You can have a basic but appropriate breakfast.

Excelent hostal, clean and warm. Gigi is the best host and he makes sure every guest have a good time. The dinner table at nights can become a truly international community along the other guests and maybe a drink or 2.

Jij, the owner, was one of the loveliest people I have ever met! He was welcoming, kind and his accomodation speaks to his character. The accomodation is conveniently located, with options for food, laundry and shopping within a 10-20min walk. My stay was comfortable and quiet :)

Jij is absolute the best! Of all the places I’ve stayed in Japan nobody comes close to him. When I asked him why he decided to put this place, he said that he was a poor backpacker… And people would give him food and shelter for free… So he wanted to return that. How amazing is that!? We need more people in the world like Jij! He also serves breakfast for free! How kind! And it was great, that we ended up all chatting in the big table sharing our stories. I didn’t stay in many hostels in Japan but this one, it’s something else. I will definitely come back to stay at Jij’s place. He is the kindest!
