The highlight of staying at this house is meeting the host Masae and chatting with her about all types of things. The house is beautifully set up and has a lovely garden to admire from the table. It is in a good location for taking a quiet walk as well as to quickly access restaurants and supermarkets and local attractions. Masae visited every morning to cook us a delicious breakfast which was a great way to start the day.

Second stay at Komaian and this time we stayed five days. If we only spent one night the first time, it's simply because we didn't know yet what was waiting for us. The place first. Komaian is a traditional Japanese house restored with rare taste — exposed wooden beams, paper lanterns, a wood stove, a garden with stepping stones, a stone lantern and sculpted trees. Everything is beautiful, everything is carefully thought out, yet nothing feels staged. You feel at home from the very first moment. And then there's Masae. She is what makes Komaian so much more than just a place to stay. She speaks English, she is genuinely kind, thoughtful, attentive without ever being intrusive. She truly takes an interest in the people who stay with her — their story, where they come from, what they're looking for. She organises activities to experience local culture from the inside, and every morning she prepares a traditional Japanese breakfast made with a care that says everything about who she is. Masae is generous in the truest sense — not in material ways, but in sharing, emotion, and the attention she gives to others. You can feel that her guests' well-being isn't a job for her, it's a way of being. She is open to people and to the world, and you feel it every moment spent in her home. At Masae's you don't visit Japan, you live it. Tokushima is far from the usual tourist routes and that is precisely what makes the experience so precious. We will be back. That's not a polite phrase, it's a promise.

She is a truly remarkable individual—engaging and funny. Amazing stay all around; Komaian gives you an authentic traditional Japanese accommodation experience. The owner speaks good English, and even let us park our rental for extra time so we can walk the Henro routes for the day. Will definitely come back.

The house was designed beautifully with a lovely host went through things in details. Breakfast was personally made in the morning. Very warm welcome and highly recommended!

“Incredible find!!”

This place is amazing! Masae-san is so lovely and made us the most amazing Japanese breakfast. The place itself is so cosy and wonderful, I'd recommend it to anyone visiting the Tokushima city area!

The hostess was incredible. She picked me up from the station, and even went to the supermarket with me to pick up some dinner. The house is very relaxing and I had a great time looking around the various shrines and temples. Breakfast was also immaculate. I choose to sleep on a futon, since that's what I'm used to at home.

The house is run like a guest house but the host lives nearby. The hosts were so lovely, they made us delicious food and were very welcoming and friendly. The accommodation is comfortable and it was lovely to have space to enjoy a homely space. We really felt relaxed there.

Komaian was the perfect place to stay! The house itself is gorgeous, very new and very comfortable. The facilities are great, and there was plenty of space for the two of us. It was very much a home away from home! Masae, the owner, is one of the loveliest people I have ever met! She welcomed us so warmly, and showed so much generosity. She is lovely to talk to, and very warm and attentive. No detail was forgotten!! She even came over in the morning to cook us breakfast, which was absolutely delicious. This is a very special house. If you're looking for a peaceful getaway with an incredible and lovely host, I would reccommend Komaian every time!

Great house, super service, very nice hosts.

We had a wonderful stay at Komaian. Masae-san is incredibly likeable, warm-hearted and hospitable. She took us to a delicious restaurant for dinner and picked us up again after the meal. She patiently answered our many questions and we laughed together. The food she prepared for breakfast was very, very tasty. We felt at home and We would love to come back.

This is an experience! Masae-san is super welcoming and helpful. Modern feel to the house along with many traditional features. I loved the care and details of the house and the setup for visitors. Bed was comfy. Toilet and shower modern and super clean. Washing machine available. Felt like I was visiting a friend. Breakfast was amazing and catered for my vegan preferences well. Absolutely adored this stay! This is very close to Temple 16 on the Shikoku pilgrimage. Spoil yourself and be looked after by Masae-san. You won't regret it!

We had a very warm welcome from the host! She was so kind and explained everything very well. She booked us a reservation at the restaurant and brought us to the station after our stay. So sweet! Breakfast was also very good!

We loved this place. It was very unique and the breakfast was amazing, one I will remember. We were craving vegetables and a home cooked meal and this was just that. The host was lovely and made us feel as home. I hope we could have spent more time here. The futon beds were very comfortable, amazing interior and special touches.
