“Amazing Homestay and Safari”

Host was so kind, and took us on an incredible free tuktuk safari of the local lake area on the evening we arrived. Was so knowledgeable and showed us lots of secret spots that animals were hiding in that not many other people seemed to know about. They also offer a safari of Yala at a really good rate (cheaper than what you can find on GetYourGuide). Wish we’d done it with him!

“What a lovely homestay.”

From the moment we arrived, the hosts were helpful and generous with their time. This is a small homestay, not a large hotel, but everything you need is provided. Although this website doesn't allow for it, breakfast is available at a very good price, and being home-cooked is the best we have had during this trip. The host is happy to prepare and cook an evening meal, which was exceptional in quality and price. There is a fridge in the house which guests can use to keep drinks cool, and the hosts were happy for us to bring wine for our meal. They are also happy to arrange any trips or safaris you may require. The room is comfortable and equipped with everything you need.

“Excellent hosts and great safari!”

This is a perfect place for booking a safari. The host organised transport to and from the accommodation for us. He also brought us on an hour long mini tuktuk safari the night we arrived to spot a range of birds and crocodiles free of charge. He was so knowledgeable and friendly!

The room was clean and had a lovely balcony to watch the birds. Priya was such a nice host and took us around the lakes in the evening to see the birds, bats, crocodiles etc. he also took us to see a barn owl another night! We also had breakfast made for us for the morning of the safari which was lovely. The safari we booked through priya was incredible! Our driver was brilliant and very knowledgeable, we saw leopards, elephants, so many birds and more :) had the most amazing time. Thanks so much!

Great accomodation an great organization of the safari

Upon arrival, the host kindly offered to take us birdwatching for free, which was truly impressive, and we saw a wide variety of birds. We later booked a day safari through them, and they prepared breakfast and everything needed for the activity, making it very easy and well organized. When we left to go to our next hotel, they kindly offered to drive us for a reasonable price and even gave us fresh fruit for the journey. Their hospitality made our stay very pleasant, and we really appreciated their kindness and care! Thank you🫶🏻

Everything was perfect - no mold at all, very clean bathroom, super comfortable beds, and the air conditioning worked great. Breakfast was delicious and very generous, with lots of fresh fruit. The place is away from the hustle and bustle, but still has good infrastructure. You can easily walk to dinner spots or take a short tuk-tuk ride to restaurants a bit further away. The owner, Priya, is a fantastic person. He picked us up from the bus and dropped us off as well. He also runs his own, professional safari company, and everything was well organized and comfortable (we recommend a full day option). If I could, I would give more than 10/10. Highly recommended!

“An outstanding stay and experience, a must for nature lovers”

Fantastic value for money for the size and quality of the room/living space alone. When you also factor in the priceless hospitality and support offered by Priya it is an absolute steal! We stayed for two nights. We did a half day tour of Yala which was excellent - our driver was so knowledgable, friendly and helpful. The sighting of two rare fish owls roosting together was a highlight of our whole trip. In addition to this Priya also took us out twice in his rickshaw to look at nature around the lakes, including to see the fruit bats show at dusk which was an absolute spectacle. I couldn’t rate the whole experience any more highly.

The owner offered us birds and bats watching, anytime we asked for something he jumped in tuk tuk and fetched it 😊

“Gran experiència i estada”

Priya and company were so nice. He took us on his tuk tuk to see the lakes and all type of animals that live there. He lent us his binoculars and the experience was great. He arranged the Yala safari for us also, and packed or breakfast for the trip as it starts at 4.30. Place was clean and the rooms are more than enough for what you pay for.

We felt like home.You will never regret choosing Blue Birds Tissa for your stay.Priya is the most amazing host we had during our stay in Sri Lanka.He gave us a tour around the lakes, shared his knowledge about birds and animals.Second day we went to kirinda beach with him for see sunset. we arranged the safari tour by ourselves, but he will arrange safari you perfectly,and the taxi to our next destination. Highly Recommended!!

“Tissa is tremendous!”

The location. It is two minutes walk from lake Debarawewa which is a delightful natural lake and good watching birds. The room was comfortable and the host, Priya, most agreeable and accommodating. Not only did he come and fetch from and take me to my bus, but he laso took to me to the evening bat show. He also arranged a safari at yala NP. Thank you also to Mrs Priya for luvly breakfast.

Great stay! The safari was amazing, the driver really knew what he was doing.

Great hotel with very kind hosts and friendly staff. The owner even took me around in his tuk-tuk to look for birds, which was a wonderful experience. The Yala safari was also very well organized. The food was delicious and I really enjoyed my stay!
