Lovely location and facilities. We felt really welcomed by the chambre d’hôte host, who was friendly and took the time to show us around and give us ideas for a walking tour and good restaurant. Such personal service. Lovely breakfast including a variety of homemade jams and preserves. Felt like she had done all she could to make us have a unique experience.

The hospitality from our host was exceptional and the location was in a beautiful location on the river next to the old bridge. Accommodation was very comfortable and in a quite location.

“A fabulous Chambre d’hôte on the Thouet and Velo Francette cycle route with a lovely lady host.”

This is a fabulous Chambre d’hôte right alongside the River Thouet and 50m from the Velo Francette long distance cycle route between La Rochelle and Caen. Arriving on laden touring bicycles with a snapped rear wheel spoke on one of the bikes our lovely lady host was soon on the phone to a bike shop and arranged for a repair to be done. She then drove me the 5km to the bike shop and waited while the spoke was replaced and the wheel trued. In the evening we watched European Championship football on the big TV in the living room with our lovely lady host's husband. Breakfast was a great spread and we drank our coffee overlooking the River. We faffed about getting the repaired wheel back in the bike and our lovely lady host made us more coffee while we were about it. Stay at the Moulin de L'Abbesse when visiting Thouars - you'll meet a lovely lady host.

Perfect host, so welcoming and friendly! Also so helpful, helping us with restaurant bookings! Our stay was the highlight of our trip. The breakfast was incredible with so many home made jams and cheese’s. Set us up for a days cycling!

“Comfortable and relaxing stay by the river.”

We were made to feel very welcome with a drink and cake on the terrace above the river. The room was spacious, clean and comfortable. The spacious bathroom had a good shower and separate toilet and was very clean. The breakfast was delicious and plentiful, with a range of local and homemade produce. Our hosts were friendly and helpful and we were given useful, local information. It was lovely to sit on the terrace by the river and had our breakfast there on a lovely warm morning. It was a short walk up the hill to the town where we visited the local market and ate at a restaurant in the square. We had a lovely stay and would happily stay there again.

The welcome from our hostess was outstanding, She provided beers on our arrival and ensured we had everything we needed. She gave us a city map, recommended restaurants, and provided a lavish breakfast. Our room was beautiful.

We enjoyed our stay at this lovely Bed and Breakfast right on the River Thouet. Breakfast was delicious with many homemade jams and eggs served to order. Very quiet at night. Excellent restaurant suggestion! We hope to return.

This accommodation merits its high ratings. From the welcome to the goodbye the service was exceptional. The owner went out of her way to accommodate a dietary requirement. We didn't ask in advance as felt it was too complicated however when mentioning the night before the owner went and purchased something specifically for us. Thank you. “Delightful old watermill accommodation with great breakfast!”

This was perfect accommodation for an overnight stay in Thours on our La Velo Francette Cycle route. Our Host was welcoming and helpful on our arrival and throughout our stay - in spite of a local problem with the water supply - totally beyond our Hosts control! Our accommodation was spacious, and spotlessly clean with lovely views of the watermill and the river from the bedroom window. There was a delightful outside seating area overlooking the water, it was a very tranquil setting. Breakfast was served on the terrace or in the dining room overlooking the river and was plentiful, good quality and well presented. The accommodation is within 10minutes walking distance of Thours centre where we enjoyed a good evening meal in the town square. We wish we could have stayed longer!

“Excellent”

Our host could not have been more helpful. We were cycling and due to very hot weather, wanted to leave at 6am. Our host insisted on getting up early to prepare our breakfast and a pack lunch. So friendly and generous. The property backs onto the river with a lovely terrace to site an watch the river. Just a short walk to the historic town. Highly recommended
