Definitely go for a local experience

This Casa is simple but really nice, and it’s run by an amazing family that makes you feel welcome from the moment you arrive. We had an amazing Mexican breakfast every morning, got lots of great tips and recommendations from Juan, and even did a really cool weaving workshop with Juan and Ana.

Unforgettable

An amazing experience with Juan, Ana and their beautiful family. A truly memorable time which we will hold close to our hearts forever. The weaving class was incredible and we took home our own hand woven items!

Great helpful family. Got to watch them weave. It's a bit of a climb from the centre of town, but with that comes beautiful views.

We really felt like a home stay, a room in a part of the family home, with 3 generations and the weaving looms in the same area The bed was comfortable and we slept very well! Shower was hot (after running a little while) and toilet are basic and shared, but fine. Our hosts made us feel so welcome, they did everything to smooth our travels and the food they cooked was wholesome and homely. The roads in village are a bit bumpy if coming by rental car, but nothing different to out of town mexican roads! Big thank you to Ana and Carlos!

Hospitality of the host and his family, Unique and different experience Comfortable bed The workshop that was offered by the family to give a glimpse into their daily life and the zapotec culture Host and family went above and beyond to make my stay comfortable. They arranged my transportation and tried in the best of their ability to offer the workshops or any other desire I had to explore in short notice. I also got the opportunity to visit a candle making process from their aunt. They also accomodated another night of stay as the weather got pretty rainy. I would definitely recommend this stay and workshops to anyone wanting to have an authentic zapotec experience in the village Bringing back lots of memories

Restful stay with delightful artisan family

The room had everything I needed to relax and chill out for a couple of days. The private seating areas had a lovely hammock to laze about and was a comfortable spot to read and write. I immediately felt welcomed with genuine warmth by all the family members, was able to observe their work and offered recommendations of places to visit. The Casa is a short walk to the main plaza for shops and restaurants. Dinner and breakfast were available when I didn’t want to go out. I loved learning about the designs of the textiles, being able to observe the work and understand the different stages. Wonderful stay!

True Zapotecan experience

The place is very calm and spacious, the facilities are good and the family is very welcoming and made us feel right at home. It was amazing to get a glimpse of their lives and the amazing work they do with their beautiful textiles. They communicate openly and offer a variety of services from food to tours and workshops. 10/10 would recommend.

Authentic homestay experience that made me feel like part of the family.

Welcoming, authentic experience in multi-generational family home of weavers. Loved the tranquil walk to the lake nearby and down to the bustling town market. Experienced the traditional Zapotec weaving with great teachers and took my own little rug home. This is a great place to stay and experience something authentic and really special, a highlight of my trip in Mexico for sure! The accommodation is basic but comfortable and homey, and the warmth of the family makes up for this and more. Highly recommend.

The room was cozy, a comfortable bed and you have your own little space with a hammock and table outside the room. The bathroom is just next to the room. Everybody is very nice and helpful at Lizu. I tried many local dishes which was s great experience. there is also a workshop so you can buy some rugs or other souvenirs directly from them. There is no noice at night so you will be able to sleep very well. Around the village there are some good walks:)

Lovely welcoming hosts!

The family were extremely friendly and kind. They provided a vegetarian dinner and vegetarian breakfast the next morning. They showed us the family weaving business set up in the courtyard which was very interesting.

A wonderful experience of authentic Zapotec life with a very kind and attentive family.

Staying with the Ruiz family was a highlight of our trip to Oaxaca. It is very special to be able to live close to and learn about three generations of a family and to be welcomed with so much kindness and attention. Thank you so much for both the accommodations, which were just lovely and the fantastic chocolate making workshop (available through AirBnB experiences).
