“Nice place on beach but would not stay again”

The chalet was right on the beach, the food was ok we were the ones there. We ordered food which was not overly hot & then the 2 people that were working there just disappeared so we decided to take a walk in the dark along the beach until we reached Mangrove chalets were we had a drink & a chat. Would much have preferred to have stayed here instead.

The location is just magical. Straight on the beach. Listening to the waves while falling asleep. Beautiful sunrises. Attentive friendly staff.

It was a nice experience but a little too expensive for what they offer.

Peaceful location right on the beach. Quiet beach but quite rough seas. Perfect for a chilled retreat. Food was good :) Room was clean and we liked they had a foot wash at the bottom of the stairs up to the room.

“A real gem!”

We absolutely loved it at Shivas Cabanas but it might not be to everyone's taste. There are 9 cabanas and a couple of rooms, the cabanas are on the sand, most are set back a little from the beach behind some palm trees. We found this great as we were protected from the winds which can pick up along the beach. The room was very simple with a very comfortable bed with mosquito nets attached, a shelf and a small rail to hang clothes. It was quite dark in the room so you can sleep during the day. The plug sockets in the room accepted both UK and EU plugs. There was a daybed on the little terrace and some chairs where we sat reading a few times. We had a non A/C room which had a ceiling fan, we don't really like A/C anyway. There are rooms with A/C if you want one. We didn't find we needed shoes for the entire week we were there, as you step out of you room onto the sand. Breakfast was fresh fruit, toast, tea, coffee and a Sri Lankan breakfast which I was sceptical of at first but fell in love with as soon as I tried it. The location is some way from the hustle bustle which you'll find nearer Tangalle. The beach here was incredibly spacious and quite with soft sand. Sea swimming was quite a challenge with some strong waves so not really for everyone but guests can use the pool at a partner hotel just 10 minutes along the beach. There are dogs on the beach, they were all very friendly and didn't cause any concern. We ate here most evenings and found the food to be great and extremely good value. It's a calm setting with no background music, just the ocean waves. The service here is one of the things people might find unusual, nobody hovers over you like you might get in a high end resort. If you ask for something, then they sort it for you, with a smile and very promptly but they are not in your face. When it rained, all the staff jumped to it and helped get everyone under the shelter.

Wow, just wow. We really wanted the beach view cabana when we first looked at this place but it was fully booked and so we stayed in a really lovely cabana a bit in towards the garden and it was PERFECT. Seriously dont hesitate to book if you want something really relaxing in nature. this is located on an almost deserted beach - its you and the ocean and a couple of places to eat a short walk up the beach. (but we usually went for dinner at some of the places in the village) we started our trip here in tangalle to really ground and relax for a couple of days and falling asleep to the sound of the ocean was spectacular and everything we wanted. simple, easy and beautiful!

“Remote accomodation with lovely staff!”

The staff was exceptionally lovely and accommodating. We were well taken care of and they helped out, when we forgot our passports in the room. Would always come back to enjoy the tranquility of the spot.

Great location we enjoyed the tranquility and peaceful surroundings, great and helpful staff. Our kids had the best time of their lives playing in the sand.

I personally loved the mesh window design. It gives you that incredible "sleeping outdoors" feeling while still providing a barrier. Yes, you’re near nature (which is the whole point of being right on the beach!), but I found it incredibly peaceful. It’s a retreat, not just a room.

Amazing beach. The best we found in tangalle! The restaurant was also really nice for lunch and dinner. Was a stunning beach front experience!
