A little too snug for 5people also was surprised it was a prefabricated container and not a proper building. Was lovely inside and comfortable. Food was absolutely great!

Convenient, comfortable with many thoughtful touches

I loved everything — it’s a hotel made out of shipping containers. They’re very spacious (the two of us stayed in a room for four). They pay attention to every detail, and they left us dinner to cook ourselves, which was great. The beds are very comfortable and large, and the bathroom is spacious. They also have a whole area to wash your dog and a space to make pizzas. I highly, highly recommend this place.

“I wish I could have stayed longer - Beautiful”

This room has everything you could possibly want. It's essentially a little apartment. Cooking facilities, a separated laundry room, a projector screen and projector?! I was booking accommodation along the Kumano Kodo route, and in Chikatsuyu I was a bit late so availability was extremely limited. Thankfully I was able to get this room, and although it was the most expensive room across my Japan trip, it was easily my favourite. I met some other hikers on the way who were also staying at Sen Retreat and we sat out around the fire pit and enjoyed our complimentary local beers together (great beer btw). It was a highlight of my trip, and only really possible here at Sen Retreat. 5 Stars, 10 out of 10

It is quite luxurious which makes all the hiking worthwhile if you’re coming from Katsuura!

Internet check in did not work properly, the page with password never opened up despite refreshing non stop.

“The twin room includes a private bathroom, well-fitted with a bath, a shower, a bidet, a hairdryer and slippers. The well-fitted kitchenette features a refrigerator, kitchenware, a microwave and an electric kettle. The twin room provides air conditioning and heating. The unit offers 2 beds.” The description of the room led me to believe it included a bathtub; if it does not, please make the text description more precise. The inconsistent information from different remote employees during our communication has also been confusing. Additionally, because the room is a converted shipping container, it is still somewhat uncomfortable in low winter temperatures, despite having hot air conditioning.

Quirky sea container accommodation. Easy to check as long as all your information has been loaded at least 3 days before. Beds were very comfortable and authentic bath with herbal salts excellent. We enjoyed cooking our dinner and breakfast.

Close to the Kumano Kodo and near to restaurant and supermarket.
