This place was incredible. Ike-san is an amazing host with excellent English (and other languages), served amazing food and made all guests feel at home. The minshuku is clean, the rooms are super comfortable and location is exactly on the Kumano Kodo Nakahechi trail, near a bus stop. Highly recommended!

“Great stay along the Kumano Kodo”

The Minshuku Wago is definitely a place to recommend (Clean Space, Welcoming Host) for a stopover along the Kumano Kodo. Ike made our stay 1 night stay in Chikatsuyu a lovely & memorable one. We opted for the dinner & breakfast and it was one of our highlights of the trip. Having a private dinner (prepared by Ike) alongside other guests made us feel at home & was a lovely way to spend the night after a long days hike. Our room was a 2 bed Japanese-style room that we booked and I must say it was very clean, spacious & definitely well-maintained. The toilets, although shared, were also very clean, spacious. Ike, thank you for the stay in Minshuku Wago. Having a home-cooked meal, alongside chatting with other guests and sharing about our lives (And trying fermented sake 😅) wasn’t something on our list, but was also what made us feel welcomed & at home throughout. Incredibly kind host and good location, has a nice lunch place nearby and a beer garden for evening drinks. Bus stop is also 5 min walk away. Definetly a great place to stay while doing The Kumano Kodo

Clean and comfy the shower room is very nice host is very friendly breakfast lunch and dinner is not included is an option pay for food host will sever home made dinner and breakfast

We had the best time at Minshuku Wago! It is clean and comfortable and the rooms are beautiful. Ike is a wonderful host who definitely made our stay memorable. I highly recommend taking the dinner option. Not only was it delicious, we tried a lot of new foods and drinks which was an interesting experience and we shared a good time with the other guests. We loved our excellent host who made us feel very welcome (and cracked out some interesting gourmet treats). Dinner, breakfast and packed lunch were all delicious and thoughtfully prepared. Comfortable, clean rooms, powerful shower. Good location and price.

“Good location for a stop on the Kumano”

Great stop on our Kumano, host was super friendly and the food was great.

The amazing Ike-san and his hospitality throughout the stay. It’s a simple, clean accommodation. Dinner was FANTASTIC; the yuzu pepper was so, so good, pickled cucumber was really refreshing and appetising, and don’t miss out on the okonomiyaki! It’s a very hearty dinner. Many thanks for offering sake and plum wine. It’s near Chikatsuyu-oji (3 mins walk) and there’s a bus stop within a few minutes walk as well. There’s a small convenience shop nearby but I highly doubt it’s necessary. The bento box prepared for the 25km trail (full walk) is simple and delicious. Thank you for the drawing on the hardboiled egg, it was very encouraging :D

“Memorable stay in a lovely village”

The host went above and beyond to ensure we had a memorable stay: from the dinner with other guests full of surprises (viper whiskey and incredibly tasty chicken sashimi, to name a few) to the care for details of the minshuku, we can’t recommend this place enough!

“Excellent host and a fantastic place.”

The accommodation was exactly as expected – comfortable and well-equipped, with everything we needed for a pleasant stay. The location is excellent, with a bus stop just a few steps from the door, which made getting around very easy. The host (Ike) was exceptionally kind and helpful, always willing to assist with anything. The shared dinners and conversations created a really warm, funny and enjoyable atmosphere too. I would highly recommend this place to anyone – great accommodation and outstanding hospitality.

We will certainly remember the stay with Ike. We had an exceptional dinner with him joking with us about Japanese food. In addition to the dinner we had surprises for the brave, but I will not do spoilers for you... We laughed all evening and all morning, and there is an Israeli saying that "A man is doing the place". This is Ike!

Highly recommend adding the owner’s breakfast here! From Jinlu to Hongu, there was basically nothing to eat along the way, so luckily we had the owner’s breakfast—otherwise we might have starved on the road. And it was seriously good curry rice, plus a café latte! Super satisfying 😊

“I recommend this as a one night stay while walking the Kumano.”

The host of this guesthouse is great - he is super helpful, informative., fun and engaging. He speaks several languages including English and was very inclusive of all guests. The evening meal was a great opportunity to meet and chat with the other guests and enjoy the dleicious and intersting food the host prepared for us. The room and facilities were basic but very clean and had everyhitng I needed. The price was higher than other accommodatiosn I stayed at duirng my time on the Kumano Kodo but perhaps that town has limited supply - I can't remember. I enjoyed my stay.

Mr Ika are polite and helpful person. He let us know all about the place that we didn't make mistake and have convenient stay. He also tell us place for dinner. We didn't success to book for the dinner with him. He also prepare breakfast and lunch box for us. We are happy to stay with him.

Warm welcome

“Exceptional”

Staying with Ike and his family was outstanding, his friendly welcome, food and the accommodation were exceptional. Hiking the Mountain that day was tough it was such a relief to come and stay in this wonderful place and be treated like family. Amazing. Wish we stayed longer. The bento box for the next day was a fantastic idea and made the next part of our hike enjoyable.

Love that it’s so close to the entrance of the town. Great refuge after a long walk. Ike was amazing. He goes out of his way to make our stay comfortable. Next day, he even offered to drive us to our stop instead us taking public transport.
