“Perfectly blends modern comfort with a traditional Japanese living experience.”
Staying at Oito was one of the best decisions I made during my trip. My double room was situated above the café in a historic wooden house on an old street, making it feel as though I had stepped back in time. The property perfectly blends modern comfort with a traditional Japanese living experience. The building itself is beautifully preserved, and the space has been thoughtfully curated with great attention to detail. Do bear in mind the check-in times, and note that many local shops in the area close at around 5 pm. The staff were extremely helpful throughout my stay, and the comfortable beds were undoubtedly one of the highlights!

“Looking forward to come back”
What a great place to stay. We enjoyed every moment spent in Oita and Tampa Sasayama. We should have booked two instead of one night here. The owners made an extra effort to make our stay enjoyable by helping with booking restaurants as well as bike rental. One day we will be back!

“Peaceful stay in a beautiful historical home.”
We liked the traditional style of the house and the peaceful vibe of the town after spending a few days in the cities. The quadruple room was big enough and beautifully styled. The beds (at least the upstairs ones) were really comfortable and the coffee shop at the front is really cute. We were hesitant about the breakfast but it was good and worth it, specially considering that there isn't much more around. The quadruple room had a bath, a shower and an outdoor shower. The place is perfect to stay one or two nights. We arrived by car and the parking space was close to the accommodation.

I had such a wonderful stay at Oito. I came to Tamba Sasayama first because this café inn seemed so charming and I wasn't disappointed. The place is so cozy and with marvellous furniture and handicrafts. Plus, the staff is really amazing and kind. They helped me so much and my experience there was the best there thanks to them. The region is so beautiful and peaceful. Oito is located in a lovely historic street and there are very good restaurants and shops around. The nice breakfast at the café will also be a precious memory for me. I totally recommend. Thank you so much for everything!

“A very special place, that offered an authentic experience”
This is a very special guesthouse, standing for 200 years. It has been very well maintained and refurbished. It has been stylishly decorated, while maintaining its original charm. Guests can use the lounge area that looks onto a small courtyard which is very tranquil and the perfect place to chill. It offers a lot more space than usually available in Japan, with modern facilities for shower. Special commendation to Oki who has been extremely welcoming and helpful from the start, and throughout my stay. Their breakfast are truly exceptional. The almond butter toast is the best I've ever tasted and having a small bowl of soup in the morning is so warming. It is located directly in the merchants quarter, and close to the bus stop. There are very few people, so it's amazing to walk down the historic street and soaking in the atmosphere of ancient Japan, in peace and quiet, especially in the evenings.

“If anyone is planning to visit this city, this hotel is no doubt the best choice.”
▌this hotel located in a historical street, the building itself is a Japanese transitional old house with hundreds years of history. ▌meanwhile, it has a perfect combination of its historical style and modern facilities such like air conditioning and showers. ▌compare with other hotels with the same style in this area, it offers a very attractive price. ▌ the tea house in its entrance is very elegant, also its coffee and food are delicious.

We booked the quadruple room. It was stunningly beautiful in design, respecting the ancient fabric of the old building but somehow capturing a luxury experience with all the details to make our stay comfortable. Akiko san and the team were incredible, always there for us, and going out of their way to help however possible and cooking up amazing breakfasts each morning - the toast is divine. I just can't capture how amazing and unique this experience is - beautiful room, amazing food, amazing staff. Tamba sasayama itself felt like we had stepped back in time 200 years.. visiting the castle ruins made it all the more magical. Thank you, Oito ! P.S. thank you for your patience with me learning to speak Japanese!

“Highly aesthetic and comfortable small inn”
Wonderful small inn in Sasayama, a not very touristy castle town in the hills in Hyogo. I wanted to visit because it is a pottery area but could not find suitable accommodation near the potteries which are about 5km by road from JR Kusano. You still can buy lots of ceramics in Sasayama though, and there are a studio or two but no climbing kilns etc. Anyway, I really liked Sasayama. Its a small town that receives visitors at weekends, mainly domestic visitors, and has a lot of wonderful traditional house accommodations, of which Oito is one. It is an old shop in Kawaramachi Merchant Street that was converted into a spacious cafe with two rooms. I really love the aesthetics of the place, very traditional building stripped back and renovated, with lots of dark wood handmade furniture and carefully chosen accessories, lots of ceramics from all over Japan. I had the cheaper room above the cafe, so you have to go up a small stair and you can hear the cafe but if did not bother me much since the cafe was relatively quiet, and opened from about 9.00-17.00. Room was huge, I could look down Kawaramachi from my bed, and it was so comfortable and beautiful. Staff were lovely too, they gave me so many nice tips and rented a bicycle which was great for cycling all over Sasayama which is a bit spread out. The number of cafes and concept stores for such a small rural town is astonishing.

“Amazing!”
Really lovely design, and tastefully decorated with handmade furniture, woodworking, pottery from craftsmen in Japan. The overall ambience was very calming, perfect for a holiday. I would love to return to stay in the future. The staff Akiko was extremely friendly and went out of her way to ensure I had a good stay - her recommendation on transportation routes and local restaurants was great. We often used google translate to communicate despite the language barrier. She was also very meticulous with her guests and has a great work attitude. Arigato Gozaimasu Akiko-san! The cafe at the inn serves up delicious food served in handmade pottery which was something that I particularly enjoyed!
