The Komorebi Hostel was great and in a handy location for the train and bus station. All the sites were in an easy walk.

I had a room if I had my own bathroom. Everything was simple, but okay. The location is great, right next to the train / bus station and also to the old town it is only a stone’s throw away.

We had a private room for us both and shared bathroom: they were clean and accessible. We were located next to everything on foot in takayama, we could reach every location 10 minutes on foot, we really loved our stay at takayama and we recommended this hostel for everyone looking for a place not expensive but comfortable

“Avoid this place: I was robbed due to a severe lack of security, room smelled strongly of tobacco”

This review outlines a deeply disturbing and unsatisfactory experience where I was the victim of theft due to a significant failure in the property's security. My mobile phone was stolen from the common area. This theft was made possible by a severe lack of basic safety measures. There are simply no cameras in common areas for guest security. Furthermore, the check-in process is conducted at a separate, distant location, leaving the hostel premises unstaffed and completely unsecured at the time of the incident. The theft occurred around 6:00 AM. I realized I had left my phone in the lobby while changing from slippers to my shoes, but upon returning just 15 minutes later, it was gone. The only person present was a middle-aged man with long hair in the kitchen. When I approached him and asked if he had seen the device, his immediate reaction was strangely suspicious: he told me to look in the trash and began opening the bins. After reporting the incident, the staff at the hotel where I checked in were extremely reluctant to help and handled the situation poorly, despite later sending a message that attempts to convey concern. Aside from the security failures, the accommodation itself was unacceptable. The room smelled terribly of tobacco. The furnishings were decrepit, likely dating from the Meiji era, and the sleeping situation consisted of just a mattress placed directly on the floor. Given the total lack of security, non-existent on-site supervision, and the poor condition of the facilities, I seriously doubt this place would ever be approved by Japanese government authorities for sure. The safety and comfort of guests are clearly not a priority here.

Great location, I was able to walk from the bus terminal and then to the festival. It's clean and spacious enough. Bathrooms were very clean. Amenities were provided in the wash room.

Clean room, excellent location (less than 10 minutes to the train/bus station and/or the historic central). Attention to details regarding amentities (shower/conditioner/sampoo/body lotion/face wash/hand wash/tooth brush are all provided. We stayed for 2 nights and so 2 bath towels were provided). The bed is big (if you know how small the dorm bed is normally are). There are curtains for privacy. Kitchen is fully function (oil, salt, pepper, pan, pot, dish, etc. are all there as well as microwave and fridge).

The location was great and the double room was nice. The rooms are not very soundproof, so you can hear anyone using the sinks, but otherwise it was a nice little hostel. Definitely worth the money
