Everything! This property was amazing! An unforgettable stay for all the best reasons. This place has to be seen to be believed. Of all the places we stayed in Japan, this was our favourite! There was ample space for our family of five. The location was 10/10. The hosts were so wonderful - our daughter was sick on the first night and they were so understanding and even offered to arrange a Doctor for us. Thankfully she was better by the following day. The art throughout the house is beautiful, you feel like you’re staying in an art museum. This place is truly magical.

It's located in the Hida Takayama Old Town (or the Sanmachi Suji which means the Historic District). The building itself looks gorgeous. Going inside, we're deeply attracted by all the Ukiyo-e artwork displayed. And the cozy beddings are surely bonus.

“A truly unique place to soak up the old world charm of Takayama”

Located right in the heart of the Sanmachi Suji district, you need only step outside to soak up the old world feel of Takayama. We were welcomed warmly and shown the many unique features of the property. At times we found it difficult to leave but it was always a cosy and inviting place to return to after discovering the charm of the Edo architecture and local sites.

This place was the best we've stayed in Japan, a total unique experience. Previously a Ukiyoe museum in the old edo-period part of Takayama, we had the whole place to ourselves, traditional ryokan vibe mixed with pieces of artworks around the place. It has everything we needed, very clean. The host was friendly and informative. We were only in Takayama for one night and wished we stayed another. It is also very close to the morning market (starting point) and worth visiting.

A magical place, a house that is a museum, we took a room with 2 beds and a futon, we had a really luxurious sleep, including the amazing blankets. great location !

“Best accomodation ever”

I loved everything about this museum accommodation. It is so unique, very comfortable, really well located in the heart of old town surrounded by restaurants, sake brewery and much more. It's an amazing place to also learn more about Katsushika Hokusai and appreciate his art. The owner came to greet and explain everything about the property.

The location was exceptional and the property itself was perhaps the most unique stay I’ve ever had.

All the beautiful art, and woderful sliding doors, bedroom ceiling. And the apartment is so comfortable.. nice warm and everything feels nice. The bath, and the bed is the best bed I have slept in in Japan. The location is also perfect.

“Beautiful, clean, comfortable, a unique and brilliant experience”

The host’s communication and response to questions was virtually immediate. Check in was easy with a passcode. The host arrived within minutes to welcome us. He was attentive, friendly and helpful and explained everything to us in English. This apartment is beautiful. The screens and the artwork are stunning, the place is immaculate. The beds were very comfortable, the duvets were warm and soft. We felt privileged to be there - in every way, it was a perfect stay. In fact, this is quite the best place we have ever stayed.

Absolutely stunning. I'm so glad I booked this house. Sitting in the hot tube was amazing especially while it was raining outside. It is not an Onsen, just a hot tube (as advertised). Fantastic experience.

“Extraordinary experience”

It was definitely one of the most memorable accomodations we have ever had. The house was full of art and history and was also very clean. The home cinema worked great and there was a very nice redtaurant accross the street which was recommended by the owner of the house. Definitely a must have addition to your trip in Takayama, the location could not be better and we will never forget this!

Everything at The Garon was amazing. It was so unique… definitely like you were staying in a museum, but it also had a very warm & homely feel. I had booked a similar style house for our stay in Takayama, and only a few weeks before our travels I discovered the Garon and its availability. I will admit I didn’t know which property to choose, but in the end decided to go with the uniqueness of the Garon… and I am so pleased I did! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, the location is so perfect for exploring the old town of Takayama. The house was so clean and comfortable for our family of 2 adults & 2 teens. The owner met us at the property and walked us through explaining how everything works, which was lovely. We loved watching an evening movie on the projector.. and soaking in the awesome bath! I would highly recommend The Garon for your stay in Takayama. I know I would stay there again in a heartbeat!

“EXCEPTIONAL BOUTIQUE HOME AT TAKAYAMA”

Staying in this gem of a place was the highlight of our japan trip..being surrounded by t art decor was surreal..every corner of this MUSEUM--HOME kept us in admiration..Also it was spotlessly CLEAN and ,this home had everything that you needed..a fully equipped kitchen,a home theatre and even an open to sky extra bath..the 2 bedrooms are very tastefully decorated in Japanese style.. Inspite of the language barrier,THE OWNER went over and beyond to communicate and help us with all our queries...he was a very kind,pleasant and caring man....at the time of our checkout,we asked him to order for 2 taxis to drop us off to the train station..to our surprise,he dropped us off in his personal car and refused to charge us for it...this act really touched us. The LOCATION is superb,it's on t street parallel to historic street..Sanmachi street..There are a lot of restaurants close by too. I rate this home a 10/10..and will highly recommend it for your stay in TAKAYAMA
