As a dream bucket list holiday - I always dreamed of being up in the mountains and staying somewhere I considered to be truly authentic It was beautiful. Dinner and breakfast were perfect.

Staff are helpful and friendly. Hotel is spectacular, comfortable and spacious. Breakfast and dinner is a foodie paradise so you won't be disappointed.

We stayed in a western room which was absolutely amazing and very luxurious, a real private oasis. It had a private onsen which was heavily used. Additionally, the bigger river-side onsens gave a nice variety. In the common area, there were a wide variety of included amenities like drinks, snacks and sake & wine available for purchase. Last but not least, the dinner and breakfast (included) was of such high quality and a true experience.

Amazing services, beautiful traditional ryokan really clean and charming. Private onsen and semi private onsen. Traditional Japanese breakfast and dinner with a never ending range of delights deeply rooted in tradition and good taste. Beautiful ceramics and impecable and dedicated service. Really delightful.

“An absolute highlight - an amazing gem in a beautiful setting.”

Kakurean Hidaji, despite us only being there 1 night, was an absolute highlight of our trip to Japan. From the moment we arrived it felt like a little pocket of paradise, and utterly relaxing after a couple of intense weeks of travel and sightseeing. If we could've stayed for longer we absolutely would! The staff were immediately welcoming and helpful, the property itself was beautiful & luxurious whilst warm & traditional, and the meals (dinner & breakfast) were fantastic, with so much thought going into every little detail. We had access to not only the indoor & outdoor baths in our room but also had a chance for a dip in both the semi-private baths (they're fully private when occupied, just open to all guests), which we'd definitely recommend even if just for the views! 😊

“Excellent tradition ryokan accommodation”

Fantastic stay in a traditional ryokan. The Japanese are not kind on this property on their websites, but I guarantee it's more than worth your money, and the trip to get there. I'd stay there again in a different season.

We returned for a second time from loving the experience last time. Great modern rooms in traditional styling, private onsen in the room is great and the local food served is worth the experience

An exceptional experience in this beautiful ryokan. We loved bathing overlooking the hills and river, the food was delicious and substantial, and the location quiet and secluded. We were made to feel welcome from the second we arrived.

Unforgettable experience for our one night at this incredible property. You leave your shoes and all your stress at the door as you enter, it’s such a tranquil and relaxing place. Our spacious room had everything you could need and more - with the addition of a gorgeous private little onsen in the garden. Heaven! As for the food - sublime! A set meal served in a private area for both dinner and breakfast is an unmissable experience. There’s also a lounge area with various free drink dispensers available to guests. A special thank you to all the wonderful staff.

The atmosphere was amazing; the building, the room and facilities were exceptional. So tranquil and peaceful. The private onsen was amazing, the view of the snow capped mountains and the river running nearby was so relaxing. We also used the smaller private onsen in our room which was also very nice. The 23! course included dinner in a private dining space was incredible as was the amazing breakfast we had
