We had a fantastic time on Megijima - it was a lovely to be right on the beach after a few days in big cities. Satomi was incredibly helpful, and we're honestly thinking of going back next time we're in Japan

With due respect to the good people of Takamatsu and surroundings, how can you not enjoy the pleasure of a quasi paradise when you have Megijima only 20 minutes away from your shores? And, more specifically, how can you not make the Megijima Island Guesthouse & cafe Megino your favourite hangout place on the island? Look no further if you want a warm, cozy atmosphere, only a few steps away from the beach. The decor is one of fine simplicity, with an authentic homey touch. The friendly managers - a mixed Japanese/German couple - will go out of their way to cater to your particular (peculiar?) tastes and wishes. As a vegetarian, I was given a special treatment with home-made dishes - although I could have chosen yummy pizzas and pasta from the regular menu. Both are seasoned travellers, which is an asset when accommodating guests from all walks of life: they deal with competence and patience with the questions you may have, notably regarding the things to do and sights to see on the island. Well, if you deem I am waxing it lyrical, I suggest you go and check for yourself: you won't regret the trip!

“An Arty Weekend with Ogres”
This is a small guesthouse right on the beach. You can walk out the front door and be on the beach in 30 seconds. There is outdoor seating, a roof terrace, nice common area with a wood burning stove and the use of a fridge. You can also have dinner and breakfast included in your stay. The food is really good. There are only three rooms, so you won't be fighting for space in the common area. The double rooms come with sea views. You can leave your luggage here, before check in or after check out. When you get off the ferry, turn right, walk up the beach, past the house with Greek columns to the orange building, it's maybe a ten minute walk. There is a post office and various cafes on the island. Most cafes, including Megino are open 11.00 - 15.00.

The dinner and breakfast were superb. The guest house is located right on the beach. Satomi and Toto who run the guest house are really nice and very hospitable. It was actually my second stay there, so that says something!

Satomi and Toto, the lovely couple who run the guest house and cafe, are really nice and very helpful. The food is fantastic. The guest house is located right on the beach, a rarity in Japan. The guest house can be used as a base to see the various sites in the Setouchi area, with ferry rides on the Inland Sea constituting part of the sightseeing.

“Relaxing, cozy, great food!”
What a great gem this place is! Satomi and her husband are amazing hosts: they not only keep the place clean and cozy, they also create a great atmosphere at dinner time, breaking the ice and helping their guests mingle and get to know each other. Satomi's husband is an incredible cook and the menu is pretty varied and very reasonable. I ate dishes I don't generally like because he prepared them with such skill and care. Even though all of us were stuck on the island for one day because of a typhoon, we were not bored. They kept us company and took us to a great little noodle shop in a traditional house nearby, where we ate somen and watched the storm in a tatami room. The location can't beat: beachfront property close to the port, but peaceful and comfortable at night. Definitely coming back again. Thank you!
