“A lovely property, great base to explore historic Normandy & Brittany or lazy days by the pool.”

Maison de la Grange, Chaulieu was perfect for our family break. We travelled via Eurotunnel and the journey was simple. We'd agreed with the hosts to arrive late at night, to make the most of our time in France. The hosts left the keys for us and access to the gite was easy. There's ample off road gated parking. The gite itself has been lovingly restored by Lesley and Malcolm. And everything was pristine. With all the essentials being provided by the hosts. Sourdeval is about a 5 minute drive, there's a small supermarket for all your essentials, and a boulangerie for the essential morning croissants and bread. Further afield is Vire here you will find the bigger supermarkets, as well as petrol stations and more shops. We found we travelled further afield using Chaulieu as a base. Travelling out to brittany and visiting places such as Dinan. More locally we travelled to Bayeux home of the famous tapestry, a lovely town full of character. Closer to home Domfront as recommended by our hosts is lovely medieval town. We also visited The British Normandy War Memorial near the village of Ver-sur-Mer in Normandy, overlooking Gold Beach. When we were there the stunning travelling exhibition of Standing with Giants surrounded the memorial. A remarkable and pointant display of the 1,475 British soldiers lost at the D-Day landings. The memorial itself is a stark reminder of the British losses, with each name etched in the stone pillars. As you leave the area you'll see in the sea the landing craft and temporary harbours, reminders of that historic and tragic day. Overall Maison de la Grange was everything we had hope it would be. A restful location, plenty to see when you use it as a base to travel around. Or just stay home and lounge in the garden and make use of the pool. When you needed anything the hosts Malcom and Lesley were on hand, but otherwise they just leave you to it. Highly recommended.

“Great location, great accommodation”

The property inside and out looks and is in fact fabulous. Everything that you need is there for you. The decor is good and fits in with the house which looks newly refurbished. Plenty of wardrobe space in each of the rooms and beds are comfortable. Lesley and Malcolm are very knowledgeable on what to see and do and can’t do enough for you. Would I go back? Definitely Best booking.com we have stayed in.

“Rural country escape”

Stunning property with lovely hosts Lesley and Malcolm. Loved our stay and would highly recommend. Not too far from some amazing places to visit. Especially a nice Moroccan restaurant 5 minute drive away. Secure off road parking. Property is amazing and as shown in the picture. Pool was lovely but a little fresh for end of September as you'd expect. Hosts supplied some essentials for us which was a really nice touch.

The house and location is beautiful, you can tell the hosts have put a lot of time and effort in, Lesley is such a welcoming host, so very glad we stayed.

Very comfortable beautifully renovated house which had everything you needed and more. Hosts were very helpful and really friendly and the welcoming camember, wine, milk... was a lovely touch and much appreciated.
