Elena’s home stay lies in the upper part of Santa Cruz. It is a small hike uphill, but the view from the property is definitely worth it. We were welcomed by Elena, her daughter Julia and their 3 dogs and 2 cats. I believe they do know some English, but we spoke in Spanish with them and they spoke slowly and understandable; they taught us a lot about Guatemala, mayans, their culture and their politics. Elena had prepared a delicious traditional meal for us and in the evening we chose to do a Temascal ceremonie. If you are looking for a very comfortable, welcoming family and local experience, than this is the place!
