This place was ideal for me. Coming from Tokyo the area is so much more quieter and on the edge of the country side. You have the tourist hot spots of the bamboo forest, monkey park and a lovely waterfall in the middle of town (all 5-15mins walk away). The accommodation is 5 mins from town and several onsen (fo fo no yu onsen, I was recommended by staff and it was lovely). I made a complete mess up and booked 2 nights rather than 3. Luckily the staff were very helpful and had organised another room for me with no issue. Toilets and shower are separate to the room. Facilities were very clean. 2 train stations to take you into central kyoto/osaka. I’d book this accommodation if you want a reasonable accommodation in a quieter area. Scenery is stunning. Central Kyoto was manic. The beds are quite firm but that suited me well. There’s no usb ports but loads of sockets so bring plug adapters.

“A pleasant stay in Arashiyama”

We stayed in Ranohkyo for 3 nights in November during peak Autumn. The communication from the care taker prior to arrival was easy. The accommodation is just a 2 minute walk from the Bus stop (coming from Kyoto Station). As for the rooms layout: On the ground floor, there is a guest room followed a common area, a WC and a bathroom. On the first floor there are 5 guest rooms which share a common WC and a common Wash basin + Shower Area. The owner lives on the second floor. The room alloted to us on the first floor was spacious (by Japanese standards) and also had a closet. For the first time in our Japan trip, we were able to keep and access our suitcases without tripping and feeling cramped for space. The bed and mattress were comfortable and the AC was functional, ensuring a good night’s sleep. Fresh bath towels and napkins were provided whenever we asked for. As for breakfast, there is a Mini-mart just 3 min away and a bigger 7-Eleven less than 10 min by walk. So we used to get items and keep in the refrigerator (in the evening), to be used the next morning. The nearby sights in Arashiyama as well as lunch / dinner options were about 15-20min by walk (Bamboo Forest, Temples, River walk etc). For visiting the more famous UNESCO site temples which were far away, we used the local bus (a convenient option).

The host is very enthusiastic and speaks English well, there is no difficulty in communication. All kinds of facilities are nice, you can also enjoy breakfast. Location is close to scenic spots and stations, which is very convenient.

The staff were very helpful. The room and the facilities were very clean. Multiple bathrooms and showers for the quests. Drying washing machine was good 👍. Location is in a quiet and peaceful neighborhood and near tourist attractions near Arashiyama.

The guesthouse was charming and comfortable, and conveniently close to the Hankyu Arashiyama station. Tge shared shower and bathroom were great. Though we didn't get to meet our host, they were very friendly and helpful with suggestions for the area, and replied quickly to messages.

The property boasts an excellent location within easy walking distance of Arashiyama, as well as charming local temples and shops. The accommodation was spotlessly clean throughout our stay. A special highlight was the owner, who lives on the property and was incredibly welcoming and kind to us. She thoughtfully provided delicious milk and cereal each morning, which we really appreciated.

We had a great stay with the homestay, very clean and new facility, friendly and helpful host. the location is great, perfect for exploring Arashiyama early morning to avoid the crowd. We will love to come back and stay if we have a chance.

The place is newly renovated and quiet; clean and tidy. The owner provided snacks and coffee/tea in the common living room. Shower place is spacious. There is a small balcony in our room which is on the ground floor.

The property is not in the middle of the hustle and bustle, but the neighbourhood it's located in has a wonderful relaxed vibe to it. The host speaks English well enough to get most of her points across but personally, her kindness and hospitality are what shines through and more than makes up for any language barrier you might face.
