Ishihara family was absolutely amazing. Friendly, helpful and guided us on every minute details. Being a Kurosawa admirer I was enthralled by the way they have maintained the great auteur's memory.

It was our favourite stay in Japan. The property is beautiful, you’re welcomed by the incredible hosts, their stunning garden in a little courtyard, and a room that is both traditional and extremely comfortable. The hosts attention to detail and hospitality is unmatched. A truly authentic & beautiful stay. We will most definitely be back in the future.

It’s quite hard to describe how exceptional this property is to stay at. The architecture, design, attention to detail, the quality of every finishing within, the kindness of the owners, their unwavering hospitality, everything. We have stayed at many of the world’s most desirable properties, and this one is truly special. Also, the beds are the comfiest we found in Japan.

I believe this is one of the best hotels you can find in such a stunning location. The owners are incredibly kind and welcoming, making the stay even more enjoyable. The room feels more like a full apartment — spacious, spotless, and perfectly equipped with everything you might need. The bed is unbelievably comfortable, ensuring a great night’s sleep. Everything about this place is perfect, especially its ideal location. I would absolutely recommend it!

It’s a pity that we don’t have much time to travel in Kyoto, so we go out early in the morning and late for 2 nights. It’s a good place to stay. The owner is very attentive. Warm and welcoming, the family welcomed us into their beautiful home. The breakfast was incredible. Healthy, traditional, they changed it everyday and it will be something I will miss the most. The room was incredible. Huge. Peaceful. Home. And complimentary local drinks of all sorts from Kyoto!

“Our stay at the Ryokan Ishihara was the absolute highlight of our stay in Japan.”

The architecture and ambience were quintessentially Japanese, the furniture offering Western comfort, and our hosts were exceptional in making us feel at home. Each morning, the breakfast was a feast for the eyes and palate. Each evening, our hosts welcomed us back after a day of sightseeing. Arigato gozaimas (どうもありがとう) to our hosts!

“The Perfect Ryokan”

This Ryokan is by far the best experience We had. The Host was very kind, She even made a origami bangle for my 8 year old daughter. The elder host even walked us to a bus stop, waited, making sure we catch the right bus.. The breakfast was amazing. loved every bit of it.
