“Perfect place for a stay in Shangri-La”

When entering, you really feel the mountains atmosphere. It looks like you are in the small tavern up in the mountains with no cities around. Really liked the atmosphere! Everything is great and there are even heated mattresses for the cold night! Really a great place to stay when visiting Shangri-La!

Had an amazing time at the Tavern Hostel for 3 nights! Very clean and cozy, and they have a nice fireplace to keep warm. Location was good, central to ancient town and bus station. The owner was very welcoming and treated us like family...

The owners were extremely kind and welcoming, and the hostel was very comfortable and well-equipped. The food is fabulous and the location is perfect.

“The staff are angels”

The cosiest home away from home, loved the electric blankets and decor, great food (try the porridge), excellent location. The main positive however was the friendliness of staff - going out of their way to help in any way possible, it was never a chore for them. Absolutely 100000% stay here!!!

The coolest place we could’ve stayed in Shangri-La! The building is so cosy and charming, and the rooms were really comfortable. We loved the electric blankets! The shared toilets and showers were also super clean and great. Would definitely stay again!

The old style guest house is amazing and the owners are very kind and helpful. Located inside the old town of Shangrila it is very convenient to visit the surrounds area.

This is hands down the best backpacking hostel! The environment is so lively and full of positive energy, making it easy to connect with other travelers. The owners are incredibly supportive and make you feel right at home. On top of that, the food they serve is delicious and very affordable — a huge bonus for backpackers. A perfect mix of comfort, community, and great value!

“Amazing hospitality”

The owners are lovely! They can help you with most of your further adventures - especially any trekking you might be considering. The vibe is warm, cosy and friendly. Clean bathrooms and dorms, even the food was pretty decent with a good price. Highly recommend staying here. The owner even helped us with accommodation, when we had forgotten of book an extra night and everything cheap in town was full!

Lovely little place with bar and gorgeous big bed and heater - a home from home. Great food and super helpful lady who runs it. Amazing location, too, right on the edge of the old town and near the dancing square if that floats your boat... Everything you want from a proper hostel in China.

“Best place to stay in Shangri-La”

The owners took very good care of everyone, ensuring everyone was well fed and had good ideas for their trips around Shangri-la. They even upgraded the toilets to ensure the guests' needs were met. We had many great conversations about hiking, trekking, and which were the best places to hike in Yunnan, conversations which would not have been possible without the wealth of experience the owners had.

Lovely hostel! Affordable, family feel, quite social, good facilities, good location in old town, excellent food, comfy beds with electric blankets, Jun the owner is a top bloke, helpful and good English. Would recommend!
