Stunning location right on the shore and on the other side integrated into the cozy local village. JP made our stay an incredible experience. He is serious about his job, but at the same time relaxed, easy-going, and genuinely kind. From the beginning, communication was quick and easy. He went out of his way to make sure we had the best possible time in São Tomé, but always in a relaxed and natural way — it felt more like being welcomed by friends than being treated as customers. They guided us to the best restaurants and places to visit, and helped us whenever we needed anything. São Tomé and Príncipe is a very welcoming place in general, but Gente D’Aqui truly raises the bar. Highly recommended!

This is a beautiful place in a perfect location, very central for exploring the rest of the island. The host, João, and his whole team are incredibly welcoming and truly make you feel at home from the moment you arrive. José is an amazing chef, and the breakfasts are absolutely lovely. Each morning you can enjoy fresh local fruits, eggs, bread, and delicious homemade jam. The village residents are very friendly, which adds to the warm and relaxed atmosphere. The property is also within walking distance of Ize Beach, with some nice bars and restaurants nearby. We would definitely return and highly recommend this stay to anyone visiting the island.

“Nice staff and view. No electricity and no generator.”

First things first: the personnel is outstanding. So nice and helpful. José also guided us at the nearby Roça Água Izé and it was great. The view is also incredible, as the guesthouse is on a cliff overlooking the ocean. Breakfast prepared by the staff was really good!

“A small paradise you really cannot miss!”

Gente d’aqui is a small paradise in São Tomé. The view is breathtaking, the atmosphere is relaxed and the food is both delicious and very well priced. João is a wonderful host and we loved spending the evening chatting with him and the other guests. The only reason we cannot give ten stars is the current power cut situation on the island, which also affects Gente d’aqui. A beautiful lodge like this deserves a generator or an off grid system so guests can enjoy its full potential. :)

João and José are great hosts! They make you feel like at home. And José is one of the best Chef’s of S. Tomé!

The views were amazing and the staff were all very kind and helpful. Overall, we had a very nice experience staying in Gente D'Aqui. Special thanks to Sara, who was our host at that time, and was very friendly and looked after our family very well. Prior to travelling we also had a lot of help and assistance from Joao, who answered all of our questions promptly, in a very kind and patient manner. Gente D'Aqui is well-located for visiting all the tourist highlights on the island of Sao Tome.

Exceptional Stay! João is the perfect host and all the staff is very welcoming!

Gente d’aqui has an incredible location right next to the beautiful shore, with amazing views. The owner was incredibly helpful and went extra mile to help us organise additional activities. It is possible to get a massage on the property, which with the skilled massager, views, and sounds of waves was probably the best massage I ever had. There is a local bar right around the corner where we had a funny night with some great memories. Praia sete ondas just couple of minutes away with car, and boca do inferno is just couple of walking minutes away. All in all, I definitely recommend Gente d’aqui and love to return one day.

This is a true gem, perfect from start to finish. Nice relaxing view, working internet and Jao is the perfect host, taking time to talk and explain island life. Went to another place in the south after this which was totally opposite.

“Exceptional Hospitality with a Stunning Sea View”

Due to an unforeseen change of plans, we booked our stay just a few hours before arriving. Joao contacted me right away via WhatsApp to let us know he wouldn’t be there initially, but he made sure someone was expecting us and ready to greet us. This excellent communication continued throughout our stay. Joao’s hospitality was the standout—he was always available for anything we needed and genuinely cared that we had a great experience. He went out of his way to make sure everything was perfect. Breakfast was delicious, with fresh fruit, bread and eggs, (and even soya yoghurt—which he had gone out especially to get for me as a vegetarian) Our room had a beautiful view of the sea, and we could hear the waves crashing as we fell asleep—I slept really well here. The location is in a village, and although we don’t speak Portuguese, the locals were very friendly. We even enjoyed a drink at the local bar and felt very safe the entire time.

“Beautiful ocean view and community-friendly eco-lodge.”

The owners were extremely kind. They invited us to eat with them, booked us dinner in the village bar, bought us a bottle of palm wine when we said we wanted to try it. The view was also magnificent: you're 10 metres away from a deep blue sea and the glorious, crashing waves.

Nice view and a very good breakfast

Everything! Celia is absolutely great running this community based accommodation. Helpful for giving information. The place is overlooking the ocean and the cabanas have a huge window with the view of the sea. Tasty local breakfast, loads of fresh fruits. The rooms have a basic interior, mosquito nets are provided. As this is a place in the middle of a community staying there is an extremely immersive experience. The local people of Agua Ize are friendly and hospitable. We loved every minute.

Stunning views over the cliffs to the ocean. Fan in room with en-suite shower and toilet. Lounging chairs and seating around the grounds. Also clothes lines to dry clothing. Free WiFi available. Good breakfast included. Celia, the owner, speaks English and was friendly and helpful. Could buy home-grown cacao and also clothing items for sale. Easy walking to Hellmouth and could wander round village. Restaurant for meals 750m away and walkable.
