“Although the road in was narrow and winding it was truly worth it to spend some time in this magical place”

The setting was magnificent surrounded by rainforest and bird life. The food in the restaurant was so delicious we didn’t try anywhere else. The whole place was thoughtfully designed to blend into the environment.

Stunning location. The walks located on the property are beautiful with amazing lush flora. Lake is quaint and you can take a rowboat onto it. Staff can help arrange a quetzal tour. the included breakfast was really good!

The bungalow was clean and comfortable with a nice shower and a balcony. We had a good dinner in the restaurant and the staff were friendly and accommodating.

Easily the best place we stayed in all of Costa Rica We finally had coffee in our room, the ONLY hotel (out of 5 that we stayed at, all around the country) which offered free coffee in the room. The staff were very accommodating and always helpful. The receptionist - Emily - who helped us book, possibly the best massage we've ever had - at a nearby spa - Del Rio. Emily also tried helping us with the Wi-Fi and gave us info about the animals in the area! There is a GREAT trail in the area which is free if you're staying at the hotel, this was a great surprise, there's a waterfall at the end and you can hear all the birds chirping. The restaurant was great too and offered a good choice from a set menu - at a fantastic price! We also had some incredible wine from them. Breakfast was also great.

The location was nice. The property has a beautiful park where you can make a nice walk enjoying flora. Breakfast was good.

“Highly recommend”

It was beautiful with Hummingbirds all over the place. I requested a change of date for our stay and it was accepted without any additional costs. Host replies quickly. There is a short trail to the waterfall which we also liked. Food and service in the restaurant was great too and for a decent price.

“Peaceful and great for birdwatching”

The location is great. Very quiet and peaceful. The lodge has its own walking trails and is close to some lovely botanical gardens. San Gerado de Dota has many great places to eat and has many fantastic places to bird watch. We were virtually the only guests for the first 2 days of our visit which was great.

“Hotspot for bird watchers”

The hotel is quite large, with a good restaurant and friendly staff. The location is ideal for bird watching in Los Quetzales National Park. The room in a double bungalow was very clean and well furnished, the balcony overlooking the pond was very nice. To get acclimated there are a few hiking trails that start right at the hotel, the pristine scenery is breathtaking. Not to be underestimated is the cool climate due to the altitude of San Gerardo (over 2000 m), in March at night 8-12 ° C and during the day for hiking very pleasant 15-20 ° C.
