It was such a beautiful, vibey house with an awesome sound system, cds and vinyls to play! Plus Sakashita is a nice quiet town, surrounded by lush mountains and with the river running through. We came with the train and found it was the best location if you want to visit the Ryujin falls (bus line starts in Sakashita) and also easy to get to Nagiso to do the Nakasendo trail to Magome. The supermarket was only a 15 minute walk away and there was a great ramen place just down the road. Not to mention the owner’s cafe also has food and fantastic music until 7pm. The owner Takashi is very sweet - supplied great music, had some snacks in the fridge when we arrived, and filled up hot water bottles for us each night. Thanks Takashi!

A truly heart-warming stay filled with traditional charm, genuine hospitality, and unforgettable personal touches.

Such a cozy and memorable stay, full of traditional Japanese charm. The location is perfect, close to Magome-juku and other historic post towns, making it an ideal base for exploring the area. Takashi was an incredibly warm and welcoming host, thoughtfully creating a beautiful atmosphere with music throughout the homestay. Each evening, he kindly replenished our hot water bottles to keep our beds warm, which was such a lovely touch. On our final morning, he treated us to coffee and live mixed music in his café, making our farewell truly special. We couldn’t recommend this homestay more highly.

Quirky traditional & very comfortable

Quite an experience staying in what is a very traditional 1950s Japanese home. It has a quirky layout but was very well equipped and comfortable. It was -3 degrees while we were there and despite the paper walls we were cosy and warm thanks to the heaters and warm duvets. Beds were comfortable, shower pressure great. The kitchen and lounge have morning sunning shining in and a nice view. We had a hire car and it was an easy short drive to Magome to walk the Nakasendo trail. The kitchen was well equipped so we cooked a couple of meals. The host was extremely helpful and friendly. The ceilings are low as it’s an old traditional house so my son 6’6” just bent down a lot! Glad we stayed there.

I wish I could have stayed longer

The guesthouse is an older building but Takashi has created such a cozy space with lots of thoughtful touches to make your stay comfortable. He even dropped off a hot water bottle in the evenings to keep the bed warm during the cooler nights. His love of music shines through with the selection of records and cds he has curated for the property designed to make you relax. This was a great base to explore the nakasendo, but I’d love to come back for longer just to chill out and enjoy the space. See you again one day Takashi!!!

The place for Music lovers

Really recommend it for families or groups of friends, spacious and amazing vibes, village people along with the owner Takashi is super nice, give him a visit next door for tea and some extra music and vibes. Limited options for eating out, but definitely worth visiting the local restaurants, but watch out they might not be open. Autumn nights were cold but the Futon and duvet were thick and comfy.

Are you short but relaxing stay

A beautiful ryokan, which we had to ourselves. A serene spot to relax after a long day walking. The host was right next door at his cafe/secondhand shop. The host is a DJ and music fan and the house had numerous records and CDs that we could play Which we really enjoyed

A breathtaking experience!

The most amazing home stay we have ever experienced. A beautiful Japanese style home with spacious, light filled rooms. Clean, comfortable and conveniently located a couple of stops from Nagiso station (a great option if you’re traveling along the Nakasendo). The location/town is breathtaking. We walked around for hours, taking in the views. Our host, Takashi, was so kind and helpful; from dinner recommendations, to sharing his impressive vinyl collection (including a few Japanese records for us to sample during our stay). We only booked one night, and this is our biggest regret of our trip! We will be back for longer next time, to experience the beauty the home and town have to offer.

Lovely, homey place

We really felt at home in this house. Takashi paid attention to details like a selection of cds for us to listen to, a bearbell and a stocked fridge to make us feel welcome. We came by car, so it was easy to move around and go to the supermarket.

Very special place!

We loved our stay here at this authentic historic & traditional Japanese home. It was a great honour to have the entire characterful space to ouselves. Our host ran a record/coffee shop next door and kindly lent some records that I had been looking for. Unfortunately I couldn't travel with them. We were on a very tight schedule during our 1 night stay but would love to return sometime soon for longer. We had an excellent time and have good memories of our stay here.

Three nights in Sakashita

We loved the traditional style of Japanese house, very simple and beautiful and not glammed up for tourists, a genuine experience. Takeshi was generous with his time and we spent some lovely moments with him listening to music from around the world as he became our own personal DJ. If you want a genuine experience of Japanese life in a beautiful house, I would highly recommend it to you. We loved being there. we chose this property as it's very conveniently located to tourist spots and walks

A break from the break

Felt like a nice pleasant break from all the travelling around the country. Not far from some great hiking spots. Unwinding in the evening listening to some funky vinyls looking up at the hills. More than enough rooms and comfy beds too.

Amazing stay. Had the feeling to be in a Tarantino movie.

Amazing experience. Beautiful traditional Japanese house in a small town in the middle of the mountains. Every house item is crazy cool and beautiful. The owner has thousands of good records and will do a selection for you. Bed are comfortable. The level of attention to every single detail - from lighting to coffee or snacks - is beyond everything I have experienced. My only regret is not to have stayed longer to chat a bit more with Takashi - the music passionate who has the house and the amazing little cafe next door - to get to know him better. For sure a super interesting and lovely host!

A very unique stay experience in a quaint town with an exceptional owner.

It is a truly one of a kind accommodation. It is situated in a very quiet and pleasant town away from city noise and it is combined with a vinyl and old CD listening experience. You can listen to whatever you like in a spacious house and you can buy the records afterwards (so we did!). The owner was really friendly and speaks English very well. He was kind enough to drive us to Magome-juku town as we couldn’t find a way ourselves.
