Perfectly located hostel in St Jean. The volunteers were lovely and the camaraderie created at dinner was so nice. The bed was comfortable and the place has a great view.

When my airline lost my luggage, my fellow pilgrims and the auberge stepped up to help me out. They gave me a towel, blanket to borrow, and a walking stick to help get me over the Pyrenees. They camino provides, but really, it was fellow pilgrims and the volunteers at Gite de la Porte St. Jacques who came through.

“Best spot to start the Camino”
The little blessing ceremony before we left on the Camino was really special. Dinner with the other guests to meet our Camino family was cool. You don't get that at every albergue. Highly recommend.

“Gita de la Porte Saint Jaques - Wonderful!”
I loved everything about this hotel. The hosts (especially Louise), the location and facilities, the food, the vibe and the cute dogs! You can see that, as previous pilgrims themselves, the owners know how to make pilgrims feel welcome and comfortable. It is very close to the Pilgrim office as well as restaurants and cafes. I highly recommend this Albergue.

“It’s a great start to your Camino!”
Located at the end of the Main Street, so quiet. It’s run by volunteers who really care about your Camino experience! I initially thought it a bit pricey, but the price included communal dinner and breakfast, so it turned out to be a bargain
