This is a wonderful place to stay while visiting Rio. The staff is incredibly kind and welcoming, and the interior is beautifully decorated, cozy, stylish, and full of charm. The highlight is the stunning deck with breathtaking panoramic views, along with the delicious breakfast featuring fresh tropical fruits every morning. We can’t recommend this place enough. We loved our stay here! The breakfast was amazing, the room was lovely and light and airy with the most amazing view of the city. We loved the pool and the honesty bar. The team were very helpful and gave us lots of lovely tips. The local area felt safe and there was lots of great places to explore.

“A magical place to stay.”

A magical place to stay. A real gem on the slopes of Santa Teresa one of the oldest neighbourhoods of Rio. The hotel, was an old family home with Art Deco details, is full of objects and intriguing decorations beautifully curated by Adriana the owner. The beautiful breakfast room, the general sitting room overlook the sloping garden/ pool and view over the bay to the Sugar Loaf mountain, just perfect to sit, relax (as is the garden round the swimming pool). Great breakfast with eggs made to order, delicious fruit fools, cakes, and lots of delicacies, that you can see being made in the kitchen. Staff all very helpful and obviously enjoy the magic of the place. A short walk up hill takes you to a small area of restaurants, bars and shops. Downhill to the financial centre.

So far my best experience in Brasil. Old villa on the hill with fantastic view and good old times feeling. Clean and tidy.Small pool opened 24/7 Every single detail works. Very good breakfast and nice staff 15minutes walk down the hill to centre part of Rio. Its reall Gem

It was quirky, clean and beautifully designed. Everything was thought about - all the little details and it was a very lovely stay before a flight. Very peaceful and the garden / views are incredible. Pool is clean and perfect for a short stay. The breakfast is also 10/10!

“The only place to stay in RIO!”

Absolutely everything! If you’re considering staying here, consider no more and book it before it’s no longer available because someone beat you to it! The property in Santa Teresa has the most unforgettable views of Sugarloaf Mountain and the Bay. The rooms are beautifully furnished and decorated as is the whole house. Antique furniture, personable art:photographs on the walls. It has tonnes of personality, as does the owner Adrianna. She is the perfect host. We felt at home from the moment we arrived and felt like we were leaving a friend by the time we had to go home. The beds, the shower, the daily cleaning, the adequate breakfast, the pool etc all made for a comfortable and memorable stay. Couldn’t have asked for more. If we ever return to Rio, we wouldn’t consider staying anywhere else.

Completely charming place - lovely room, and a delightful well designed tropical garden, with the odd hummingbird to see. Spectacular views over Rio and even though it is not close to a beach, the pool and lounging area are a perfect substitute for- maybe even better. Delicious breakfast served on charming crockery. Close to a very cool and lively neighbourhood.

“Marvelous”

This place is marvelous. The history of the place could be a story for a book I would love to read. Both the previous owner of the house (Gerthrude) and the current owner of the B&B are extraordinary and interesting women. The breakfast is fantastic and offers lots of vegetarian options. The interior design is extremely well curated and we felt very safe at Gerthrudes. The view at night is fantastic.

Beautifully kept gardens and rooms that make the most of the landscape. Lots of love and care is clearly put into creating a comfortable and inviting place to stay, a true boutique experience. Breakfast was one of the best on our whole trip, staff are warm and helpful.
