“Jose king of the Volcano”

Incredibile experiance at Pico do Fogo. Jose, the host, Is really the king of the Volcano. He welcomed us at his beautiful place, which he built all by himself. The scenery is surreal, and and Jose is extremely kind, exceeding our expectations. Once we arrived, he cooked us a delicious dinner with local food, and gave us the best Cha do Fogo wine made with grapes from the Caldera itself. After dinner, he gifted us an Amazing night: he put the music on and we dance toghether, learning the Cabo Verde moves (you really need deep lungs to keep his pace). All under an amazing sky full of stars. We slept a few hours, and very early in the morning he prepared breakfast and then guided us to the top of the Volcano. After an intense hike we finally arrived to the top of Pico do Fogo, and saw the sunrise from above. The way down has been a unique experience, running down from the Volcano floating on volcanic sand. You can understand it only if you try it. After this experience, he also gave us a tour of the northern part of the island with a pick-up, giving us the opportunity to see the forest and the small villages on that side, which usually are overlooked by the majority of the tourists. There is no price for this experience, although it was very honest considering all the time that he spent with us with dedication and passion. The Volcano experience is unforgettable, but even more unforgettable Is Jose: one of the kindest and more passionate person we have ever met. 100% advised experience, thanks a lot Jose for hosting us! The location is perfect for the hike on the volcano. Jose is a very good chef, always cooking something different, and a very experienced guide. He built the place himself and we really appreciated the accommodation. It felt real.

Very friendly staff; the owner cooked dinner every evening for a small price. Simple but very tasty and nutritious, perfect for hiking. If you wish, you can also hire a guide who will safely lead you to Pico de Fogo. This is recommended, especially if you have little mountain experience or want to be at the top for sunrise.

“Sleeping in a Volcano Crater, in a House Made of Lava Stone.... - mind-blowing”

You sleep in a lava stone house and you are in a base camp, don't overestimate your expectations. Perfect place for hikers and nature lovers. You have electricity in the evenings. The owner, José, is a warm-hearted person, helps you with everything. Very much appreciated. The home made meals are great. Don't miss out on the "how to make souvenir houses" and dancing workshops. Best laughs ever. No surprises with the prices, he informs you in advance. Perhaps not everything the cheapest, but don't forget, you're in an island, many things are imported there, and you are in a crater of a volcano!!!, the locals have to transport everything there. Appreciate the effort they do, because they all are extremely helpful and respectful.

The place is very nice and clean! Is built with lava stones! Just looking from the window seems to live in another world. From my window just in front the Pico de Fogo!!! Amazing.

An excellent location for hiking. Very nice and interesting accommodation. The host is also a guide and can arrange a hike to the volcano summit as well as trips to other places on the island.

“Unique experience at Jose’s in front of the volcano”

Staying at this guesthouse in front of Pico do Fogo was a unique experience. The owner José is an amazing person who knows his volcano deeply, it’s the place where he was born. A beautiful atmosphere was created with the other guests as well. We felt like one big family, gathering for dinner every evening and talking. The place allowed us to disconnect from the city life and contemplate the stars and the volcano. There are no artificial lights around, and the night sky is breathtaking. The rooms were clean, and Jose’s food was really good. We also booked the hike to Pico Pequeno with him and the transport to Sao Filipe, all well organized. Super, super recommended!

Funky design.

Jorge, the owner, is extremely kind and makes everything to feel you comfortable, from arranging pick up at local price at the harbour as well as cooking for you. The location is perfect, a little out of the village to be able to see the stars and have a clear view of the vulcano.

Jose it’s a lovely active person, caring a lot for his costumers. The place was super clean, all times and the vibes are great. He gave us as well little trips showing us specific things and stopping the care when needed so we have a lovely experience.

The pension is right under the volcano, so you can start the hike right there. The house is beautiful and the rooms are very clean and tidy. The host is very kind and helpful and provides you with everything you need: guided tours, meals and lifts. If you want to see the pico do fogo and the island, we recommand you to stay there. You'll have a great experience.
