“Brilliant casa at the feet of the volcano Pico do Fogo”

Sonia is a brilliant host and makes you feel at home right from the start. She connected me with a guide for hike up the volcano. The breakfast pastry, the desserts were really nice. And Ze drove me from and to the aerodrome and helped bridging the language barrier.

I honestly think Sonia’s attitude wasn’t the best throughout our stay. Firstly, we asked her at what time dinner was normally served, to which she said between 9 and 10 PM.We arrived at 9.15 PM and , to our surprise, she told us it was now too late for her to serve dinner. The problem in Chã das Calderas is that there are no restaurants opened at that time, and it was extremely difficult to find a place for us to eat something before going to bed (this was a problem especially since we were going to climb the volcano the morning after) Additionally, due to a delay in our ferry’s time of arrival to Fogo, we were forced to cancel the first night of our stay in Chã das Caldeiras. Booking didn’t allow us to cancel by our own, but rather to send a cancel request to the host. Although initially she said there was no problem in canceling, once there she wanted us to pay for two nights instead of one. We explained the situation and said that we should have cancelled directly in booking (which we couldn’t do at the time). She charged us 3.000 ECV as a commission fee from booking, which is almost entirely the price of the room. Although the location and place itself are great, I would rather stay somewhere else with a kinder host.

Ze and Sonia welcomed us with infinite care. The location, right in the middle of the Caldeira is ideal. Sonia is an exceptional cook!! This is a place we will not forget. 👍

Host very king and easy communication. Good location to start the hiking. We had very good food for lunch after hiking. Easy to arrange a guide through the host. Very good price for the value.

The hospitality of Sonia and Ze is unmatched. You will feel at ease here. Sonia’s food is fantastic and to be enjoyed with a glass of homemade wine. Ze’s brother is an excellent guide, fluent in French and English.
