“Just OK”

We chose Son Matias Beach Hotel largely because of the excellent reviews and decided to spend a bit more than we normally would, expecting something special. Unfortunately, our experience was that it was just… okay. There’s nothing particularly wrong with the hotel, but nothing that really justified the price we paid either. The breakfast was average, the rooms were fine, and the overall experience was perfectly acceptable, but that’s about it. What surprised us were the extra charges. We had to pay for use of the safe, Wi-Fi wasn’t included, and even changing a beach towel cost €1. I wasn’t asking for multiple towels a day – just a fresh one on day two – so it felt a bit petty, especially considering the room rates. If you’re debating whether to pay a premium because the reviews make this place sound exceptional, my advice would be to manage your expectations. It’s not a bad hotel by any means, but in our opinion it wasn’t worth the extra money and didn’t live up to the hype. One other thing worth mentioning: my husband and I are in our early 40s and were easily among the youngest guests. This wasn’t a problem for us, but if you’re looking for a more mixed-age atmosphere, it’s something to be aware of. As a side note, we also weren’t particularly impressed with the beach area directly in front of the hotel, although that’s obviously a matter of personal preference. Overall: comfortable, clean and perfectly adequate, but not the standout experience the reviews led us to expect.
