Welcoming hosts that made us feel right at home, they cared and were curious about our country, we had lovely conversations. They were very helpful with things we needed, taking the time and effort to ensure we’re comfortable :) we remember it all fondly as the start of our Shimnami bike trip :)

This was one of our best stays in Japan - we only regret not staying longer! Junko and Yuji were so kind and welcomed us with kindness. They also gave us so many good recommendations. The house is wonderful and has everything you need. Very good location, especially when travelling by car/bike. We couldn't recommend this stay enough - can't wait to go back!!

“Clean and spatious stay with wonderful hosts”

The hosts are wonderful, so friendly, nice and helpful. We had some issues with our bikes in the start of our bicycle trip and they were super helpful. The facilities were spacious and very clean.

We had a wonderful time at the Inn. Yuji, Junko and Pooh are lovely hosts with a beautiful, clean, modern and comfortable house. We had very comfortable beds, soft sheets, a large living room space, private bathroom and shower, and all the necessary equipment, microwave, fridge, television, electric kettle, and more, even a heating mat for the carpet! Free water, coffee and tea. It’s some 15 minutes from the ferry to Onomichi, but we enjoyed walking around this quiet island and taking the ferry to see the town, it was such a cool and unique experience for us. If you’d prefer it, the owners can also drive you to and pick you up from the ferry - they also give wonderful recommendations for your trip. We had a full day of walking around Onomichi and got very tired, and sadly refused Yuji and Junko’s lovely invitation to have a glass of wine and chat, which we would have loved to do! Next time we’re in Japan we’ll make sure to visit again and stay here longer, and talk more! Book your stay with confidence, you’ll love your time at the Country Island Inn.

“A fantastic stay in Onomichi!”

Staying at しまの宿 island country inn was the most fantastic experience we’ve had in Japan! Yuji and Junko are the most welcoming, kind and warmhearted people you will ever meet and made our stay in Onomichi unforgettable. Yuji and Junko are a wealth of knowledge of the area and kindly recommended a great place to have dinner and also recommended things to do and see in the area which were all fantastic! They kindly dropped us off/ picked us up from the ferry which was extremely helpful. Yuji and Junko were great to talk to, they kindly spent their time speaking with us about Japanese culture and the local area. They took time out of their day to get to know us and that made us feel at home. The inn is very comfortable, spacious and clean. You have the whole upstairs area to yourself which comprises of a large bedroom with semi-double beds (with the most comfortable bedding), a spacious living area, bathroom and toilet. Junko kindly prepared us breakfast which was absolutely delicious and well worth it, fresh bread, fruit, eggs, yoghurt, juice & coffee/ tea. We stayed two nights but wish we could have stayed longer! We will always remember our stay in Onomichi, couldn’t recommend staying at the しまの宿 island country inn more! Thank you very much for having us Yuji, Junko & Pooh we loved our time in Onomichi :)

Lovely hosts, Yuji and Junko (with a cute, friendly dog) and quiet location. Such a peaceful place. We were only there for one night before starting our cycling tour. Comfortable for our family of four. Junko cooked up a wonderful breakfast, perfect to begin our cycling tour on.

Our hosts were very nice, helped us with any questions, picked us up from the ferry (saving us a 15 minute walk with out luggage) and gave us and the kids delicious Japanse candy and snacks. They also speak really good English. Highly recommend!

My hosts were wonderful. They helped me to feel right at home and made excellent recommendations for dinner and sightseeing. 😎😋🙏🏼 I had the upstairs to myself and the bed was very comfortable. They catered for my dietary requirements at breakfast and I enjoyed chatting to them about their own travels. I would highly recommend this location for solo women travellers or couples.

Yaju-san and his wife (and Pooh) were absolutely lovely, they both speak English and Yaju-san even speaks some french!! I was made very welcome and they were able to recommend me a very good Izakaya close by where I could eat dinner. The rooms were spotless and I slept like a log on the very comfortable bed. I cannot recommend enough this place. ありがとうございました、すてきなへやとかいぞく

One of my best stays ever!!! TOP welcome and TOP service. It's a dreamy place to relax after biking because it felt like home. I really hope to come back. Meanwhile, wonderful memories for the future!

Very welcoming couple who offered to take our bags at onomichi so that we could attempt the shiminami kaido track. Home was very clean and bed comfortable. Hosts were lovely and incredibly generous, offered to drive us to and back from their hotel. Thank you so much for hosting us, we felt so welcomed at your home.

Yuji and Junko were so welcoming and helpful. We had planned to bike the Shimanami Kaido and Yuji was very responsive and helped us with bike rentals and luggage transportation. They picked us up from the ferry terminal and offered to drive us to the shops to get rain gear as there was some rain in the forecast the next day. They provided dinner recommendations and gave us little snacks to try. Junko made a delicious breakfast the next morning before our bike ride. The location is a short walk from the main shops/bike rental (~10 mins). Again they offered to drive us, but we didn't mind a short walk. Yuji and Junko are great hosts and we loved getting to know them. This was one of our favourite experiences on this trip. It felt more personal and homey than the hotels we had been staying at.

We felt very welcome in Yuji and Junko's home. On arrival, they invited us in and we all sat together talking and enjoying some tea and special treats. As guests, you have the entire top floor of their recently renovated house. The beds were comfortable with one of the thickest, but lightest, duvets I have slept under. The lounge room has a low set comfortable lounge, TV, under mat heating and separate airconditioning. The bedroom also has its own airconditioning. The shower has good hot water. Junko gave us some recommendations regarding nearby restaurants that made okonomiyaki. We had dinner there one night - delicious and ridiculously cheap. And later that evening when we returned, Yugi and Junko invited us to share some beer and wine with them, and we again enjoyed just sitting and chatting to them. I have no hesitation in recommending a stay with Yugi and Junko, but note that It is probably best if you have your own transport. Thank you Junko. Thank you Yugi. P.S. We also had breakfast there each morning - very nice and very well priced.
