“A cosy and authentic place”

We enjoyed our stay at Onzo very much! The rooms are spacious and cosy. There are only 3 of them for the common bathroom so easy to use. We had a kitchenette in one of the rooms. We had a nice chat with the owner who is very friendly and has excellent recommendations, from restaurants to the beautiful walk around the temples and a 600 year old pagoda. He recommended us a local family sushi restaurant which was a highlight of our entire stay in Japan. The house is from the 1970s, simple, with steep stairs, but we truly enjoyed the authentic experience! Thank you!

“Perfect resting place on the bike trail”

We loved this place, we were on bikes and it was a perfect resting place. It's very close to a special shrine and the owner has everything laid out to help us make the most of the area. We went to a great bar and then restaurant and really enjoyed our stay.

Nice owner Leo and his cute "Tiger Man" cat. Great location in Setodacho on Setoda. We enjoyed the recommendations for where to try the local seasonal anago (saltwater eel), cafes, and lemon cake. The notable Kousanji temple (marble hill and Buddha cave) is a short walk away as is the bicycle hire station for the Shimanami Kaido. Our room was comfortable and well equipped, but I could really have done with an extra pillow option. The toilet was very small, but the house is old. Leo also arranged our bags to be forwarded to Imabari and had them directly collected from the guesthouse after we checked out — this was a big help!

It's not fancy, but is clean, warm and comfortable. We enjoyed having some seating in the room in addition to the beds. The central location was convenient and was a good overnight stop for our bicycle trip across the islands. Setoda was pretty quiet during our stay in late November, but it's an interesting place to explore. The host gave us a great recommendation for our dinner.

“A charming break from the complexity and bustle of the big Japanese cities.”

Onzo offers a genuine small town Japanese experience, something you seldom find in hotels and apartments. My sister and I had a room each, and they were comfortable and pleasant, with everything guests need such as tea-making facilities, heating and cooling, a fridge and hairdryer. The bathroom is shared but as the property only has three guest rooms this isn’t a problem. Leo, the host, is super-helpful. He very kindly drove my sister and I to a bus stop to catch a direct bus to Fukuyama, avoiding a ferry and local train ride with our suitcases. Entry to the guest rooms is up a very steep but short staircase, but it has a good handrail, and we found it to be a part of the authentic experience. The 40-minute ferry ride to Onimichi is beautiful and means you can spend two or so nights enjoying the peace and history of Setoda Island while making a day trip to Onomichi. As sleepy as Setoda Island might seem, it has sone excellent restaurants. We had a wonderful sashimi meal at one, and an excellent ramen at another. Leo recommended both.

Cozy place with all essential things, convenient location, friendly host.

The location is fantastic (setoda was such a hidden gem for me, I'm so glad it was raining in the morning and so I got to explore the area before re-embarking on my bycicle trip) The owner is welcoming, helping, caring, and I had such a wonderful time talking with him. The room and facilities were clean, good smelling, comfortable. Honestly, you get way more than you pay for. If I'll ever be around seto naikai again, I'll be sure to come back!!

“Safe house for bikepackers”

Leo and Torao are the best hostages ever. I had a wonderful experience. He has tools for fixing bikes and everything is so clean inside the room. I could also make my laundry without the need to go find a coin laundry. He sells beers and also serves tea. He is very kind and great guide to know the best around the island. I could store my bike safely inside his place.

Excellent, quiet location in Setoda town. Room was comfortable and well equipped to make tea/ breakfast. Good size. Shared facilities very good.

This is such a cosy and comfortable accommodation! Even though the bathroom and toilet are shared the standard of cleanliness was exceptional, and the owner goes out of his way to ensure all guests are comfortable and considerate of each other. The rooms are clean, tidy and have everything you need, despite being fairly small (not an issue for us as we were travelling very light). The owner has also provided a huge amount of fascinating history of Setoda, which was extremely interesting to read and made us extend our stay in the town a little to explore and learn more. He also provided excellent recommendations for local restaurants and bars and made sure we were aware of the opening and closing hours, and also provided bikes if we needed them to get around (as we hiked from Omishima this was appreciated). We were also able to leave our bags with him after checkout. The owner is extremely friendly, accommodating, and pleased to offer advice and help if you need it. It was a lovely stay and we were extremely happy to have met him. Thank you again!

“Very comfortable overnight stay with such a lovely host”

Leo is such a kind and gracious host, and was very helpful with advice for enjoying local food and dinner suggestions. The room we had was very well equipped and meant we could do the bike ride with just a small backpack. Leo has thought of everything you may need for an overnight stay, even mouthwash. The beds were very comfortable, just what we needed after a long hot ride. Setoda is a delightful little village and we enjoyed our stay there immensely. Thank you Leo.

The owner was incredibly helpful and friendly. We could also store our luggage before leaving the next day. They also provided us a map with available restaurants for the small town. Right along the shimanami cycling path.
