“worth the climb”

nice apartment with good living space although beds filled the 2 bed rooms, apparently typical for Japan. a quiet village a short train ride from Hakone but regular services. village had a big museum and an interesting walk up the mountain to a lookout. a break from all the action in hakone.

“Tiring and tedious.”

The location of the carpark was really poor. There was no mention that the "5 minute" walk from the carpark was a sharp incline the entire way. Impossible to make the walk with luggage. There were also a steep, narrow and dark staircase to take to get to our lodging. We were travelling with our parents in their 60-70s and needed to drive through very narrow streets to drop our parents off at the lodging first. Then, make tight maybe 5-6 point turns to turn back towards the carpark, make another 5-6 point turn to actually park our car in a very tight lot made more difficult by cars parked on the narrow street, and then make the steep trek back to the lodging on foot. This had to be done 2-6 times each day for every journey out of and back to the lodging, depending if we stayed out the entire day or not. The accommodation itself was very dusty with dirty bedsheets. There were clouds of dust every time we moved the curtains in the bedroom. The rooms were purely 2 double beds and a small bedside table squeezed in with hardly any room for luggage. There were also no hooks or closet to hang anything in the room.

The apartment had lots of space and light, It was clean, had towels for all of us, and a few amenities such as teeth brushes and mouthwash, batteries, lots of hair dryers... The beds were large and comfortable and the apartment has got a kitchen with a hob, sink, and a large fridge.

The bed was very comfortable, and the board and card games that were provided were a nice bonus for family time before bed.
