“Restful in a private cove overlooking the Japan Sea”

Chose this location as a stop to break up our trip from Kanazawa to Tamba-Sasayama. Wanted to stay somewhere overlooking the water. We enjoyed our stay, but this is not the place for everyone. If you want activities, then you may look elsewhere. As the website explains, this hotel is remote and situated in a very, very small hamlet of houses with no retail services around it. The accomodations were exceptionally well done and high end. We stayed in the "House Sen Nami" which was spacious having a nice living room with large picture window and very large sleeping loft upstairs. The style is "industrial chic" which one would never expect in such a remote location. The features were excellent and the bath was unique with a large wall of glass opening to the genkan and had very high ceilings. The shower was luxurious and the tub was huge, however, it was made of poured in place concrete with straight sides and hard corners. Honestly, it was not very comfortable for relaxing when compared to others we've experienced. We enjoyed dinner and breakfast at the restaurant next door (which is the only place for dining in the area). The dinner was exceptionally well done and was mostly of Japanese foods from the sea and vegatables, although it included two meat dishes including a "hamburger" that was very tasty. Be prepared for it to be a lengthy dining experience. After more than two hours, we still had three more courses to do, and were so tired that we excused ourselves and returned to our room. The host was kind enough to wrap up one of the courses for us and delivered it to our room. Some reviewers commented on the stink bugs as being a problem. It was unseasonably warm (which actually allowed us to open the windows to fall asleep to the sound of the waves lapping up on the shore down below, but we didn't have an issue with the bugs.
