A bit of a time travel into the days of colonialism and tea farming in Sri Lanka, mesmerizing.

To stay at the house of the former owner of the tea plantation on this rather remote and wonderfully arranged estate was a real treat. The groove to the estate was almost adventurous and we would not have expected to find such a marvel.

A unique and relaxing departure from the modern world.

We had a truly special time here- amongst the tea, in beautiful nature and with very kind, attentive staff. We liked the remoteness and the escapism to another time and place. The tour of the tea factory and walking around gave us an understanding of life in the hill country and a tea plantation. The food was delicious and service spot on. It’s a historic, quirky building but that added to the appeal.

A unique heritage property in a beautiful setting of peaceful tea plantations. The room was clean and comfortable and the food delicious. The staff were fantastic and we even got a tour of the tea plantation and vegetable garden, it would have been lovely to stay an extra night.

The Scottish planter bungalow is a beautiful themed boutique hotel and retains its rustic colonial charm. The absolute highlight of the accommodation is the staff, the manager took us on a guided walk through the estate, the house staff were so kind and attentive and the chef was superb. We couldn’t decide if we enjoyed the Sri Lankan or Western menu more! The grounds are particularly magical, with manicured lawns, animal themed topiary and we even saw deer and monkeys!

Truly a memorable stay in this lovely bungalow surrounded by nature and lovely humble people. Keep it up :)

The manager Manu and his lovely staff where so welcoming. He also took us for a hike in the mountains followed by a fresh and delicious afternoon tea. The 4 course dinner on both days was exceptional. All made from the fresh vegetables and fruits in the area. The beautiful bungalow is so well kept, keeping to the original decor and the feel of a true Scottish cottage.

Outstanding experience - A real gem!

We had a fantastic stay and a truly special experience. This 145-year-old property is a real gem, set in a beautiful garden surrounded by tea plantations. The dining room and the elegant lounge for after-dinner drinks both feature fireplaces and charming interior design, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. We also thoroughly enjoyed high tea on the garden terrace. The rooms are very spacious and comfortable, but it was the outstanding service that truly made our stay exceptional. Both dinner and breakfast were excellent - the Sri Lankan breakfast was a highlight, and dinner felt like a fine-dining experience. On arrival, we were welcomed with a lovely flower bouquet, and fresh flowers were beautifully arranged throughout the bungalow. Unfortunately, we stayed only one night. Spending a full day there to enjoy the garden or explore local activities would have been wonderful. Highly recommended!

Perfect place to relax and enjoy the tea plantation area

We had a wonderful stay at the Scottish Planter’s Bungalow. The setting is spectacular, surrounded by beautifully manicured gardens and the tea estate, and the bungalow itself feels like stepping back in time. The welcome was warm, the food led by Bandula was outstanding, and Kapila looked after us so kindly throughout. The tea factory tour with Manusanka was a real highlight. We would return in a heart beat. Thank you so much to everyone behind the scenes.

Atmospheric and charming bungalow in the heart of tea country with superb food

Amazing old bungalow in amongst the tea plantation. Food was amazing- the best meal we had in Sri Lanka! Western but with Sri Lankan ingredients and fresh from their own garden. The staff were super helpful.

Scottish planter's life Relived!

If one needs to relax and avoid the hustle and bustle of the Nuwara Eliya, this is the ideal place. The food is excellent, staff is very hospitable, the bungalow is very well maintained although it's over 145 years old. The access road could be mended for easy access which they will. Few garden chairs would be lovely for those who want to have breakfast in the lush green lawn. The chef Bandula's gourmet dishes are unique!

Delightfully, authentic planters bungalow surrounded by verdant tea gardens

The property is in a beautiful setting about half an hour from Nuwara Eliya. Perfect for the time of year when we went as it’s usually dryer slightly east towards the end of the Monsoon. The staff were amazing and treated us like royalty. Manu and Morgan in particular, were on hand to assist us with anything we needed. The chefs produced excellent food too - we prefer rice and curry and they were happy to cook whatever we wished. The default menu in the bungalow is usually a four course western dinner. The afternoon snacks were a particular highlight for us, relaxing, sitting watching the palm squirrels and bird life in the beautifully maintained garden. The walks around the bungalow are very accessible and you can see the tea harvesting first hand. I believe you can visit the local tea factory too and the last stage of the Pekoe Trail is not far away. The bungalow is surrounded by the little village which contains the tea workers’ houses, with all the atmosphere that entails. I was amazed to discover a visitors book which had entries from relatives of mine from the 1940s to the 1970s. In fact, the book was a significant historical document, charting the changes in the tea industry and recording visitors during times such as World War II.
