“Nikko. A warm Japanese Canadian welcome.”

We loved the warm welcome from Elizabeth and Satoshi. The inn is full of antiques and artworks. Satoshi prepared two excellent Japanese style dinners for us. Elizabeth was our tour planner with suggestions for every day of our six day stay. This is a modern slant on Japanese culture easily accepted by visitors from the west. Inside and outside onsens ( hot tub) bathing available almost at any time. I enjoyed the round tub onsen outside when it was raining and cool. The forest setting was magical on a misty morning.

The location was perfect for our visit to Nikko as it was peaceful, our room was cosy and oh so comfortable and the outdoor onsen (which we could book for private visits) was delightful. Liz and Satoshi are wonderful hosts, and the breakfasts and dinner we prebooked were delicious - cooked to perfection by Master Chef Satoshi! Our stay at the Gableview enhanced our visit to the beautiful area and amazing historic sites of Nikko - we would love to return.

Although the location is away from easy transport options, the owners were more than happy to shuttle us back and fore to either the centre of Nikko or to a specific location nearby. Elizabeth was very willing to supply all sorts of information about activities that you could pursue in Nikko and it was very helpful. The property is well maintained with the hot baths easily available to use. Dinner was awesome, and a good introduction to Japanese style cooking. Not recommended for finicky or non meat or fish eaters. Breakfast cooked to order was excellent

“Lovely stay”

Hosts were lovely people. Liz couldn't be more helpful and is full of suggestions for an itinerary and with lifts to the station. Satoshi is an excellent cook. We enjoyed his fish meal enormously. Taxis were available from the station to return to Gableview early evening. We were there for the Yoyoshi festival which was well worth watching.

“A charming little Inn in beautiful Nikko for a relaxed, delightful stay!”

We absolutely loved everything about Gableview Forest Inn. It was a home away from home, warm, comfortable, full of beautiful art work and furniture and surrounded by trees and birdsong. Elizabeth and Satoshi were the kindest, most thoughtful hosts! Elizabeth drove us to drop off points, picked us up and provided detailed maps and itineraries. Do yourself a favour and book in for dinner to experience Satoshi’s delectable food. Breakfast was also delicious and we left feeling like friends rather than guests.

Elizabeth made us feel right at home! She told us a lot about the local history and wildlife, and she made great recommendations for each day. She gave us lots of advice about where to go, taking the weather into consideration. Breakfast was lovely, and if you're lucky, you can see monkeys. The onsen was really relaxing after long days of hiking. We really enjoyed our stay and would recommend it to anyone who wants to slow down and spend a few days enjoying the Japanese countryside. 🌸🏔🐻

Fantastic hosts. Kind, helpful & professional. The artwork dotted around gave the property a beautiful, authentic & unique feel. Our room was clean, cosy, and well maintained. The onsite bathing options were a nice surprise. Onsite parking available. Would happily stay again. Book with confidence!

The Onsen and the feel of being in a home was truly unique. The staff was so lovely and helpful and made Nikko and the surrounding area feel like a doable trip in just 36 hours.

Both hosts were wonderfull! They made sure our stay was pleasant and would advise us beforehand about getting there. Elizabeth would even go out of her way to help us with an itinerary and bring us in the morning to the station of the shrine. We advise you to book with meals included; they were he best meals we've had this vacation! The beds were also really soft and the room was big. The private onsen was a lovely add on after a day of walking!

Gableview Inn was used as a base for exploring the Nikko area. It suited this purpose very well, but was also a highlight in itself. Breakfast was very good and the evening meal exceeded expectations on both nights. Communication was very prompt. The team at Gableview was very welcoming and helpful. Our stay was comfortable. A charming inn.

“Cozy forest retreat”

We had a great stay at Gableview Forest Inn. Elisabeth had great tips for things to do and where to go in the region. We booked breakfast and dinner which were both delicious and served in the dining room with forest view. The cozy room had a very comfy bed, enough space, amenities and also beautiful forest view. The private onsen was a beautiful experience which we used every evening to relax and rewind. We highly recommend staying here and would love to do so again if we are back in Nikko.

The atmosphere in the Inn surrounded by trees is great, and the onsen was very enjoyable. The hosts were lovely and helpful, they shared many great recommendations and drove us to the station.

A lovely home to rest and rejuvenate after a day of exploring Nikko Center. The dinner is like private dining where the chef prepares every dish with care and skill. The mushroom soup and unagi is out of this world. The combination of western and Japanese dishes go so well together. Thank you Satoshi for making our best meal in Nikko.and Liz for your warmth and personal welcome.

“A very different and comfortable stay”

Very welcoming and great food. Elizabeth drove us to town 3 times. Nice dinner setting and breakfast. A quiet and verdant surrounding. A warm onsen after a long day out.
