“A peaceful and memoriable experience”
What a wonderful place! I am very happy that I was able to spend two nights at Morito-Sha. I felt comfortable there from the moment I arrived. The room is very minimalist and elegant. It is worth noting that you have access to a private bathroom, while the toilets are shared. However, I can assure you that they are extremely clean so there is absolutely no issue with that. I would like to thank the staff for their warm and welcoming hospitality. In particular, the young woman (I’m sorry, I didn’t catch her name) who helped me carry my suitcase to the bus stop, as well as the lady who speaks French and kindly prepared a quick breakfast for me to take on the bus because I didn’t have time to eat before leaving. Speaking of the bus, there is a bus stop only a 5 min walk from the property. From there, you can easily visit the beautiful villages of Ainokura and Suganuma (less touristy than Shirakawa-go, but just as beautiful!). I hope to come back one day. Thank you! ❤️

“Great service at a beautiful hotel and very kind hosts!”
The hotel has an incredible beautiful interior design, minimalistic Japanese design mixed with traditional design. As a design lover it was just a pleasure to stay here.

“Unique and unforgettable experience”
The most amazing experience we had in Japan! The place is unique. It’s not just a hotel, you can feel its philosophy in every detail. The interiors are highly curated. The temple nearby is a true gem. Dinners at the hotel were the gastronomical highlight of the trip. As well as the hospitality of the hosts, truly nice people. Can’t recommend enough!

“Great start, but inconsistent service made it feel slightly overpriced.”
It’s super well thought out and greatly renovated into a zen like experience. Stylish and quiet. The rooms are big. I really loved the team that had been welcoming me.

“A very stylish tranquil stay within an important temple’s grounds”
The property is within the temple grounds. It is very well run and the amenities are very comfortable. It gave us the chance to witness the religious morning service at the temple which was truly authentic and gave us more insight in Japanese culture.

“Great authentic experience”
Location is of course quite remote, but this ensures a peaceful environment. Close to the temple, you can really wind down and relax. The hotel is very authentic and traditional in an old (but renovated) house. Personnel takes their time to explain and are very friendly. Super clean. Get up early and experience the monks chanting in the temple!

“A unique and peaceful stay with warm hospitality, though a few amenities and comfort aspects could be improved”
It was at a historic Buddhist temple, which was a unique and memorable experience. The room was clean and tidy, and the hostesses were very welcoming and spoke fluent English, which made communication easy and comfortable.

“Great property and an amazing team!”
The rooms are comfortable and light and the breakfast is good quality and filling. It is also well located and has decent bus and train connects ions if you don’t have a car. It is very easy to visit nearby towns and also to visit the traditional villages nearby. However, the things that really sets the property part is the team that run it. Each day the lady who manages it would check with guests if they needed any advice and personally gave us a lot of amazing recommendations including some traditional festivals that were happening nearby, not trying to sell anything, genuinely just helping us to make the most of our stay. If you have any questions she will have the answer for it!

“Lovely hotel in beautiful temple that is part of a quiet town”
The Hotel is part of an old temple that is almost 500 years old. It is very new hotel about 1 year old. The staff are very nice and helpful. The little town of Johana is lovely and there is the constant sound of mountain streams in the town drainage system. It is a very Japanese town, very few people spoke a foreign language and signs were almost all in Japanese, Morito-Sha was a bit of an exception in welcoming visitors. The rooms are clean and spacious. Tea and coffee are provided downstairs to the side of beautiful old rooms that were part of the temple school. The building is very atmospheric. Food is good, mostly Japanese though a western option is available with eggs, bread, jam etc if requested.

“Beautiful hotel inside the temple grounds. Every detail was perfect.”
This hotel is a perfect hidden gem in a discreet village that gave us a real flavor of Japan, far from the crowds. The building is beautiful, a restauration of the original monks dormitory, and every detail is perfectly simple and charming. Makiko is the greatest host, she was helping us in everything, from dinner reservations to forgotten items. The gentleman who greeted us in the evening was also most kind and helpful. It was such a moving stay and we are deeply thankful.

“Authentic and beautiful”
A very old and authentic Japanese house nicely decorated and simply beautiful. Special mention to the staff, very nice people who help me to film the bell's ringing of the temple. Thank you to Reika and Osasha.
