Lovely quiet lodge in the mountains. Staff were incredibly helpful providing drop off and pick up from the ski areas each day. Food was excellent with a good variety of dishes each day. It is possible to ski along a pathway and through a tunnel to the ski slopes but be aware of avalanche risk after heavy snowfall. Great location for us, but be aware it is up in the mountains away from the resort with nothing else around.

Very cosy very quiet. Surroundings are beautiful. Room was very spacious. Onsen was nice :) But the staff were the best!!! They were so kind and lovely. They even helped us arrange doctor visit and medicine when my partner was sick. Meals included were also delicious!

This lodge is located high up in the mountains, which gives it the most peaceful and tranquil setting. The lodge provided a shuttle which drives you everyday to whichever ski field you want within Myoko area. Thankyou Yutaka, our driver was awesome! The staff were amazing and very friendly. We couldn't speak Japanese, but the staff were wonderfully patient with us and we managed with google translate. We did the breakfast and dinner package, as there is no where to go in the evening unless you have a car. The food was really good and authentically Japanese. We loved it.

“Fantastic lodge”
Very cool, retro vibe in the lodge. The staff are fantastic, the food was delicious, the room was very comfortable, & the onsen facilities were very nice. The outdoor bath is on the colder side, but the inside bath is nice & warm, so there is a nice difference between the two to try out.

“Live your best life in the Japanese Alps”
What an amazing experience staying at Tsubame Highland Lodge. The owner of the lodge might be the best Japanese person I’ve ever met - so lovely and helpful and friendly. The Onsen - a mix of cold and hot has also been my favourite of the trip. And the view of the trees and the snow from our room and lodge made it the most perfect cosy stay.

“Remote and comfortable. Onsen onsite small but sufficient. Staff drove us to ski fields each day.”
Excellent experience. Picked up at train station Myoko Kogen. Each day we were driven to a different ski field / arranged a pick up time. All transfers included. No need for a car. Onsite onsen small but sufficent. Bar area to socialise, amazing views from room. Staff were helpful - google translate solved lots of communication issues. Not suitable if you want to be out in town at night. Breakfast and dinner included - plenty of food and variety. Unusual ingredients at night but that is the Japanese way. Take snacks if you need and sweets as no shop nearby. You can actually ski from lodge to top of Akakura Onsen ski run - they will ask you to sign a disclaimer - go through the tunnel and ski down and then buy a lift pass. It is a 20 - 30 min drive to other ski lift starts. Highly recommended. (Australia)

“Charming lodge up in the mountains”
Great location up in the mountains and surrounded by beautiful woodland. Hosts were amazing, even though they spoke little English, however they made their best effort to accommodate and help us, including lifts to the neighbouring towns. The Lodge itself is beautiful, if a little old but this adds to its eclectic charm. Dinner was delicious. Sitting out in the lounge with other guests and a sake on-the-house was the perfect way to unwind after a long day.

“Old world charm and gracious hospitality in lush forest surroundings.”
Surrounded by emerald green forest, the property oozes old world charm; elevated by the gracious hospitality of the owner and staff. The highlights include; the large panel glass windows in the rooms that give panoramic views of the lush green forest, and the hotel onsen. There are two baths, a hot one indoors and a cold outdoor bath that it open to the forest. You can watch the mist roll down the mountains and engulf trees from the outdoor bath. This lodge is a hidden gem.

“Nice place to stay”
Nice hotel in the mountains with very hot onsen. The owner is very kind and supportive. He picked us at the station because we didn’t have a car. This is a remote location so coming with a car sure is easier. Dinner was excellent and a lot to eat. Room was Japanese style, it was big, with large windows to see the trees in the forest. Very cozy living area with a lot of books and other things to see.
