It was a very negative experience!

Review of Pavilion Higashi Fujita, Moroyose – August 13 2025 On Wednesday, August 13th 2025, we spent the night in Moroyose at Pavilion Higashi Fujita – Independent House. We have traveled extensively, but we have never felt so misled by a booking. The listing photos depict a private, fully equipped house. As a family of four, we were looking forward to a relaxing stay close to the beach. Instead, what we found was far from what had been promised. Upon arrival, we were shown into an old Japanese house and given two tatami rooms with futons. While the traditional atmosphere was undeniably charming, the condition of the accommodation was shockingly poor. The hosts were extremely friendly—almost excessively so—leaving us with the uncomfortable impression that their warmth was a way to prevent complaints. And unfortunately, there was much to complain about: The futon mattresses were so worn they offered no comfort or hygiene protection, with no sheets and a strong musty odor. Only two thin, inadequate blankets were provided—again without sheets—making it unhygienic for guests. There was no air conditioning, despite the summer heat. All windows had been left open, resulting in swarms of mosquitoes. The kitchen and bathroom were shared with others, even though we had booked what was advertised as a private house. The “kitchen” in our room had no light, kettle, crockery, or cutlery. So we could not make our own meal and breakfast. No towels were provided for showering. Green beetles crawled along the window frames. We were so taken aback by the conditions that we didn’t know how to address the situation in the moment. The only recourse we feel we have now is to leave this review and file a complaint with the Japan Tourist Office. What we found most disturbing was the elderly couple's indifference. No explanation, no apology, no compensation for the price, suggesting they were going to continue this scam.

Nice little house in a small village with not much going on. Lovely hosts, though.

As per the description, this a whole house to yourself. One of those wee houses you see all over the place in Japan: Two storeys, a little kitchen and bath area downstairs, with a tatami-floored bedroom area upstairs. The hosts - an older couple who live a couple of houses away - were lovely. The gent speaks English well and was eager to talk. Felt a bit guilty waking them in the moirning to hand over the keys as I mosied on.

Beautiful little house by the sea

Moroyose is a beautiful little village by the sea. It is right around the corner of the Uradome coast and Tottori. There are a lot of beautiful beaches around and the train takes you everywhere. The house was perfect for 3 people but will also accomodate more. There is enough room for everyone to sleep comfortably. The house offers everything you will need and is a great starting point for exploring the area. The owner also showed us his house which is 140 years old and full of history. We were honored to be given a tour! The owner was also very kind to offer us a ride to a big super market in the neighbouring town Hamasaka and he took us to the onsen town of Yumura. It was an exceptional experience! We made great memories.
