“Peaceful stay”

We were extremely well attended to at the Spice hotel,with very welcoming and helpful hosts regarding anything we needed from food around the pool to lifts into town or to places we wanted to see There are 3 rooms as luxury accommodation in the purpose built house as well as 3 spacious accommodation bungalow rooms around the pool and a chalet bungalow without air conditioning.The new pool is pictured below. It was a lovely quiet place to relax listening to the local birds. The hosts planted the garden themselves and are extremely knowledgeable about local plants and their properties and benefits.

From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed by our incredible hosts, Madhu, her husband and Komari. The hotel is nestled in a beautiful, calm location with a spice garden, created by our lovely hosts, outside of busy and loud Habarana. The room was clean and spacious with a balcony, modern aircondition and very good  water pressure. A short swimming in the pool in the morning was a fantastic way to start a long, hot day. It is just a short walk from the property. They are building a pool on the property right now (september 2025). The food was absolutely delicious — authentic Sri Lankan flavors at it's best. Madhu and Komari are great cooks and prepared all kinds of delicious traditional dishes with so much knowledge and love. We enjoyed both breakfast and dinner for five days and they were happy to show us  the incredible variety of Srilankan food. Certainly the best food experience we had on our trip! What truly made the experience special was their extraordinary kindness and hospitality. They did everything to make us feel like home. Thank you and ayubowan, Madhu and her kind husband, Komari and the rest of the crew, for making our trip so memorable. We hope to come back to this wonderful place. Highly recommended!

“Three days of bliss”

Clean and spacious room with a balcony, a little out of the main town but set amongst the trees and spice garden of the owners. Incredible value for money, the hosts were so accommodating we immediately felt like we were at home. Be sure to enjoy the breakfast and dinner cooking, we ate every meal at the accomodation for three days and left with bellies full of Sri Lankan food. The pool is a short walk from the property but don’t let that deter you, there are lounges to enjoy the sun. Owners organised everything from day trips, to laundry to our drop off at the local bus stop. Wonderful stay! Highly reccomend.

“Kindest hospitality we had in Sri Lanka”

Taking a step back and comparing Spice Village to other hotels and restaurants we have been to over the last 3 weeks, I can only say that it was great experience of Sri Lankan hospitality and genuine kindness. We very rapidly felt like friends rather than clients. We have been offered cooking demonstrations, garden tour, tea party,… you name it. Our two hosts were wonderful and put a lot of effort in conveying an unforgettable image of Sri Lanka. Moreover Madou is a great cook and prepared all kinds of dishes not on the menu card, delicious traditional SL cuisine.

A beautiful place surrounded by nature. The rooms are welcoming and impeccably clean. Laundry service is available. A generous breakfast with delicious fruit is offered. There's a gorgeous garden.

“Wonderful and homely. Excellent hosts, company and food .”

In the middle of the jungle along an almost secret path , Habarana Spice Village touches the edge of the Minneriya National Park. Madu is a wonderful host providing warm welcome, exceptional Sri Lankan food, and beautifully kept comfortable accomodation. There is access to a very nice pool set in the garden in the small hotel a couple of minutes walk away. Madu arranged a very helpful tuk tuk driver to take us to various places on the local itinary. She also arranged a jeep for tour of local eco park where we saw many elephants. If you want a taste of the real Sri Lanka. This is it.

“Delightful and outstanding”

The hosts really were exceptional in the level of service they delivered, and the meals were outstanding. We felt part of the family, and nothing was too much trouble. The location and ambience really are something special, with beautifully kept herb and spice gardens in a quiet rural location. We had a lovely stay in a comfortable and spacious room, some fascinating visits to local points of interest, and relaxing time spent on our balcony and at the pool. We would thoroughly recommend staying here. One of the best places we've ever stayed.

“Very good”

Everything very OK

Sri Lankan breakfast and dinner are amazing and change every day. The owner and staff are very friendly and accommodating. Wifi works well, A/C too. The area is near the park, so quite remote and relaxing.

Very friendly owner. The lady is very knowledgeable about plants and she helped us for some issue we had in our travelling. She even offered to take us to the New Year celebration and drive us back which we did not do as we had other plans. Peaceful location. Beautiful spice garden.

“Very pleasant stay in a beautiful villa”

We had a pleasant stay and enjoyed tasty breakfasts and a good time with the hosts. Internet is very fast. Rooms are clean and bathroom is modern. Thanks to the really friendly hosts for staying at their new hotel.

I would thoroughly recommend staying at Spice Village. The location is beautiful, amidst beautiful woodland but only a few hundred yards from the main road. Our hosts made us feel so welcome, nothing was too much trouble and we left feeling part of the family. We were given an educational tour of the spice garden and a massage! The meals were home cooked and plentiful. The rooms are very large, the wifi excellent. It is ideally situated for visiting Sigiriya or Pidurangala Rocks - just 15 minutes drive - and also Minneriya NP for which our hosts organized our own private jeep.

I had a great stay here right on the edge of the National Park. The room was large and exceptionally clean and my lovely host gave me a in depth tour of the grounds explaining the uses and medicinal properties of all the plants there. The staff also made me meals with produce from the garden and catered for my Western tastes with well prepared meals. On learning of a problem with my foot I also received a massage using the products of the garden. I can’t recommend this place highly enough Greg The professor
