“Wonderful Stay”

We had a wonderful stay at Michael’s homestay. The place is quiet and very beautiful. We went on a 4-hour jungle hike together, met locals, and learned a lot about fruits and plants while enjoying stunning views. The dinner and breakfast were super authentic and delicious. Highly recommended!

Michael was so friendly welcoming us with tea, cookies, and cooked us a beautiful dinner. The location is very nice and in the middle of nature with some great hiking spots and viewpoints close by. Michael even brought us on a longer hike in the morning where we had some king coconuts along the way. What a great experience! Would definitely recommend.

“Authentic jungle experience with amazing hospitality”

I felt very welcome when I arrived, and the first thing I sensed was the peacefulness and calmness surrounding Michel’s house. Michel, the host, is a heart-centered man who truly wanted me to have the best experience. He cooked both dinner and breakfast, and wanted me to have the best local experience with the food, which was excellent. This place felt so special—tucked away in the jungle, yet full of life and learning. The short time I was there I discovered much about the jungle, spices, fruits and animals during my stay. In the morning, Michel took me to one of his lookout points. It was just a 20-minute hike, with beautiful views, and he also told me about the one-day hike that he organizes with I fint have time to do but got curious about it.

Unforgettable stay with Micheal – a true taste of Sri Lanka Staying with Micheal was much more than just accommodation — it was an experience. A retired military man with a kind heart, Micheal welcomed us with incredible warmth and generosity. He introduced us to the authentic flavors of Sri Lankan cuisine, even showing us how to prepare traditional dishes in his own kitchen. The highlight of our stay was the guided hike to Monaragala mountain. With Micheal leading the way, we explored breathtaking landscapes and learned so much about the local culture and nature through his stories and deep knowledge of the area. His home is peaceful, well-kept, and made even more special by the presence of two lovely kittens that added a touch of charm and comfort. If you're looking for something genuine and heartfelt, this is the place. Micheal is a host like no other.

Environment

We had a truly extraordinary stay with Michael at Kande Gedara Resort. The accommodation has a huge garden and is surrounded by luscious green. Here you can get a glimpse of an authentic way of living in Sri Lanka. Michael took us for a small hike through the jungle where we saw wild growing pepper and jackfruit trees. You can also go on some more advanced hikes and get spectacular views if you’re staying here. In the evening, Michael taught us how to cook Sri Lankan rice and curry, starting by grating fresh coconut to make coconut milk. He told us about all the spices and we ended up with an amazing dinner! The next day, Michael prepared delicious breakfast for us and helped us to get grease for our rental tuk tuk. All in all we can only recommend staying at Kande Gedara resort if you are looking for an authentic experience, surrounded by nothing but quiet and nature and with Michael as a warm hearted and welcoming host!

The host really made us feel welcome at his gorgeous accomodation. He is a very interesting man with even better cooking skills. The food was all fresh prepared and was some of the best we had in Sri Lanka (and we had a lot). It was an absolute pleasure and we wish him all the best!

An amazing place and man. If you want to climb a nearby peak, walk through the jungle, try wild pepper, cinnamon and other plants Michael will make it possible for you. He took us on an amazing trek, which we could experience thanks to him. As for the accommodation, the beds are comfortable, the rooms are clean. The bed has a mosquito net, but I did not notice any mosquitoes in the evening (unusual). Michael is talkative, you can ask him about everything and he is very keen to show you what is best in Sri Lanka. I highly recommend staying with him.

Michael is a fantastic host! His home is a true oasis, located in amongst trees and wildlife. We loved his chatty and friendly cat, and of course his food was amazing. Dinner is 1800 LKR/person, which for us was a little pricey, however worth it. A home away from home! Thank you so much, Michael.

Michael was one of the friendliest and kindest host we've had in Sri Lanka so far... and Sri Lanka is full of great people! The location is great if you are into nature and calm places, away from the crowds. He welcomed us with tea and snacks and we went for a short hike around the place. After that, Michael cooked the best rice and curry we've tried in Sri Lanka in about a month of our stay. Plus, you are welcome to learn the recipe! I would definitely come back to meet him back again.

“Amazing stay”

Michael the host and owner of the resort is the best host I have yet experienced. The place was clean and beautifuly set in a nature setting. Micheal took us on a stunning hike through the mountains, took us to the local market, cooked for us and gave us a Sri Lankan cooking lesson. He was above and beyond nice, helpful and hospitable. A plus are the kittens and a sweet dog that roam around the place. I am looking forward to my next visit.

“4 days in the Mountain House”

Michael is a Host among hosts. The level of attention, care, and kindness shown by him is exceptional. He went out of his way to always make sure I was as happy and comfortable as possible. Spending so much time and effort just trying to understand me. He even guided us up the mountain. And never asked for extra, this is the thing: he is truly not all about the money. Which is a disappointingly rare trait nowadays. It is also very tranquil there and highly recommend to anyone considering going through the area to stay here. Food also great!

“Great experience of the real Sri lanka”

Awesome location in the middle of the forest. If you're looking for the real Sri lanka or to see the real Sri lanka life this is the place for you! Michael the host is just amazing and will do anything to make you feel at home and will assist with anything you may need. I was travelling alone so we were preparing dinner together and he expalined me everything bout the local food. Overall it was great experience for me and if you're in the area i would highly recommend to stop over :)
