“Worth staying just for the coffee”

Breakfast was great, but not as big as some of the Ryokans we stayed at. The help-yourself espresso machine and pourover coffee station makes up for it! Best coffee I had in Japan.

The lodge feels very homie with a traditional touch

We really loved the shared, comfortable living space: as a family, we loved playing the board games provided. The staff went out of their way to make this a wonderful stay for us and to make us feel welcome and supported in our travels in the area.

Had a very good stay! Many things to do around. The lodge itself is very comfortable, good staff and tasty coffee!

I absolutely loved my stay here at Tanigawa Valley Lodge & Coffee Roastery, Craig was a wonderful host and even picked me up from the local station - which was super kind. The tatami mats were really comfortable as well- would highly recommend

“Captivating”

the snow on our 2nd day was very good and very fun to play with and also the hotel was clean and not dusty and very quiet also the toys there was very fun to play with especially the soccer one? It’s my favorite and I like your breakfast muffin 😊 and also Staff is friendly and kind ,,, coffee is so delicious 😋

“Awesome stay”

Beautiful lodge in a beautiful area in Japan. The owner was so accommodating and made our stay extra special. He gave great recommendations for restaurants, day trips as well as the coolest onsen. This place is a gem out of the touristy areas and we will definitely return. Good breakfast and great coffee that can be enjoyed in a very spacious common area downstairs. Facilities are great and very clean.

“Surrounded by mountains”

It's location. You're surrounded by the mountains. Set this as our base to went up the tanigawadake ropeway. The owner even set us up with a nearby onsen for a private onsen trip. It was very refreshing walking from the onsen back to the accommodation. We even got to cycle around the area using their electric bicycle. Wish I had more time to cycle around. Maybe for the next visit.

“Perfect spot, Perfect host, Perfect location”

This place is located in the Tanigawa hills in the town of Minakami. Craig and his wife run this large house with several different styles of rooms. We had a Japanese-style room with tatami mats and futons, overlooking the mountains. Craig is passionate about coffee and runs a roastery. He is very attentive and can drive you around the area and take you to and from the station if necessary. The breakfast was excellent every morning. The place is close to hiking trails. Everything was clean, including the toilets, the onsen-style showers and the rooms. I can only recommend this place, which is an hour from Tokyo by Shinkansen. Many thanks again to Craig and his team of volunteers.

Craig, the owner, and his staff were fantastic. Always happy to help and he even offered me a ride to and from the station. They have e-bikes you can use and they provide precious informations about the area.
