“Superb stopover”

An excellent few days spent here with a very helpful host, full of tips and advice on the area.

Robert was very friendly and accommodating, the house itself is beautiful, and decorated in a stylish manner. Definitely a change from the usual. Garden was lovely for a quiet sun-downer too.

It's not often that you get the chance to stay in a stately home complete with chandeliers and antique furniture without paying a significant amount of money. Robert has generously opened up his beautiful 1870 mansion so it is within the reach of normal travellers. The house is exquisite, has so much character and beautiful furniture. We felt very privileged to stay there. There is also a lovely garden, a place to store our bikes and a kitchen to make hot drinks. Robert is a very kind and gracious host.

The most beautifully restored, grand town house oozing character and elegance. Very comfortable room/bathroom and the added bonus of a kitchen for guests to use at the top of the house. Robert was a great host.

Robert's home is amazing. You can tell he painstakingly renovated his property and put all his heart and love into it. Very tasteful decoration, and the rare feeling (nowadays) of spending time in a friend's home and not a hotel-like setting. “Wonderful experience”

One of the highlights of our cycle trip was staying at Maison d'Hercule. The Maison was stunning, set in the centre of Mayenne, yet very peaceful with beautiful garden to enjoy. Robert was a extremely charming host and we really enjoyed meeting him and learning about the restoration of the Maison. The room & bathroom were amazing, beautiful and clean with lovely personal touches. Thank you Robert - we wish you all the best

This is a one-of-a-kind experience. The attention to detail and the thought put into the restoration and decoration of Maison d’Hercule is pretty stunning, and Robert is such a nice and welcoming host. We had a wonderful one-night stay while bike touring and so glad we chose this place, from relaxing in the garden with sweet Stella to the super comfortable room and bonus ability to use a lovely kitchen/lounging space and chatting to Robert about the history of the house and Mayenne itself. We hope to visit again.

Gorgeous property. A real experience to stay there - and not like the many other anodyne hotels that I had stopped at on my cycle trip. Robert was super welcoming and helpful - even though I arrived late and muddy. Fixed my phone, lent me a hose for the bike and steered me to the right restaurants.

this was a spectacular opportunity to stay in beautiful very old home , classic entrance carriageway , lovely regally furnished rooms and access to fantastic comfortable lounge and kitchen. I consider this the very best most unique place that we stayed in our 2 months in France. The owner , Robert is a very sociable caring host and we enjoyed our moments chatting with him . We were travelling by bicycle and he welcomed us with open arms and our bikes were parked regally in the old carriageway amidst classic carved pillars .

The house was magnificent, and every room was beautiful. Robert, the host and owner, was very helpful friendly and easy to talk to. We would definitely stay here again if in the area. The house is in an excellent position close to the main square and restaurants but the right distance to get a quiet night and is short walk away from shops restaurants. free parking is available opposite.

Robert the host is awesome, friendly and welcoming. The residence is stunning - an interior designer's dream. Central to all Mayenne amenities and shops.
