“I wish I could have stayed longer”

Location near the main road and less than a 10 min walk to the beach, with a restaurant on site. Great facilities: 3 pools, restaurant, reclined chairs, etc. Gorgeous very big room with hot water and good water pressure in the shower. Very nice staff. Great value for money

This place is paradise. The garden area and rooms are very beautiful, clean and comfortable. We enjoyed our stay there very much. The food is delicious and the breakfast wonderful. The team is extremely friendly and helpful and we loved staying at Salama and Mbuyubi very much. Matemwe was a great place, calm and relaxing.

“Relaxing Rustic Fun Place to Stay”

We just loved this little oasis. It was a perfect place to unwind after a hectic few months. Zanzibar itself is not a typical beach and swim vacation, so if you are looking for local colour to explore and wildly beautiful beaches... not always swimable and trips to incredible places where you can enjoy a long swim beyond your wildest dreams in crystal clear sea, this is a lovely place to stay as a base. We found the stay reasonably priced for what you get for your money and does eat too heavily into your budget for doing other things - whilst feeling relaxing, with a personal touch. Maria and Paco are fun hosts and are good at organising local outings to your liking. We really enjoyed Maria's yoga which was tailored to our very non flexible bodily needs and left us feeling yoga could be enjoyable and challenging to the right extent - if you have a good teacher. The staff were lovely and really did their best to please, the gardens are so pretty we didn't do anything much the first week except enjoy the two pools the pretty garden and lovely cocktails and health drinks at the garden bar. ..Breakfast is plentiful and if something is missing we just have to ask and it is quickly replaced.. Maria is looking at making some additions to increase the variety at breakfast. Rooms were cleaned well daily, and beds were super comfortable and big. The atmosphere is rustic in the rooms and outdoor setting, bathrooms could do with an upgrade in some and I think that is un the pipe-line, but they are clean with plenty of hot water available. Wifi is probably better than average for the island too as they are able to generate their own solar electricity, which means the property is rarely affected by the outages suffered by other hotels on a daily basis on the island... this was a real plus. We enjoyed it so much that when we traveled to another area to split our stay, we ended up canceling it and coming back to Salama. We arrived as holiday guests and left as friends.

This place is a paradise with a beautiful flora.As soon as you enter it, you feel very welcomed and relaxed. It is designed in such a way that you have a lot of privacy if you wish to. It is very clean. The staff is very friendly, smiley and helpful. Breakfast is very healthy but nice. You can also order delicious lunch or dinner ( local food, pasta, pizza, bowl, etc) and drinks. The owners, Maria and Paco, make you feel at home. Such a lovely couple. they are always happy to help or give advice. If you would like to do some excursions, Maria would organise it for you. We hope to visit the place again.

Stayed in one of the deluxe bungalows by the larger pool. Great room, very clean & comfortable (no aircon, which might bother some - no issue for us we just had fans on and main door open with screen door closed). Short walk to supermarket and beach - very safe area. Entertainment was excellent. Staff all very friendly and trustworthy. Owners Paco & Maria are lovely people who really care about the place they’ve built and your experience there.

The accommodation has a great vibe, created by the Spanish hosts—from the décor and plants to the warm, welcoming staff. Christmas program was superb, thank you for that! I did also like to food from the menu - try poke bowls!

The ambience of the place. It was so relaxing like a fairytale. I felt swept away into a magical resort. The people working were all friendly and Maria and Paco work hard to make sure everyone is happy.

Their entire team is attentive, caring, and full of good humor—it feels like home, but with the added magic of Zanzibar. 🌴✨ A big thank you also for the snorkeling and dolphin excursion: it was a real thrill to be able to swim with them in their natural environment at 6:30 in the morning, as the sun rose over the ocean… a magical and unforgettable moment! 🐬💦 And how can we not mention Moussa, their always smiling driver (and singer!), who took us to the Jozani forest and offered us impromptu stops on splendid beaches—simple and authentic moments that will remain etched in our memory. 🚐🌊 Before you leave, don't forget to treat yourself to a massage—a true moment of relaxation and well-being, for children and adults alike. It's definitely worth the detour! 💆‍♀️💆‍♂️ These four nights spent with you were a pure delight. Thank you for your kindness, your positive energy, and all the wonderful attention you gave. We're leaving with our hearts full of memories and already wanting to come back! 💛

Beautiful flowers everywhere, super friendly staff, delicious food and a welcoming and safe space for kids. We would love to come back one day! Good Food and nice Pool and Cocktails

“Exceptional”

The staff made the experience. Everyone is very friendly and engaging including Rajabu, Ayesha, Lusawa, Salma and many more. We had a great time. The relaxed atmosphere is perfect for couples and families. It never feels busy, you always have somewhere to relax. Maria was incredibly helpful in planning us excursions including a spice farm tour with a member of her own team, Mona, as well as snorkelling on the reef and swimming with dolphins with Juma. The swimming pools are great, and the bar is well stocked. The food is very good too and we ate at the hotel often. The rooms are comfortable and the fans are more than sufficient to keep you cool at night. The entertainment on Fridays/Saturdays is excellent. Matemwe is a small peaceful town with some good restaurants, amenities and a relatively peaceful beach compared to other areas on the East coast. Make sure to take a free bicycle out to explore the area and neighbouring towns, as well as booking an on-site massage! We really enjoyed our stay, thank you everyone at Salama & Mbuyini!

This property has such an amazing ambience. We felt at home as soon as we arrived. There are several pools, a beautiful garden and a nice restaurant, and the room we stayed at was lovely. The owner is really fun and friendly as well. I highly recommend staying at this place!

The hotel is.a hidden gem. Paco and Maria were lovely.We celebrated our 11th anniversary and they made it memorable.Thank youonce again. My family loved it the fact that the room had a pool right outside the room. The beach is 8-10minutes walk. Aisha the restaurant staff was very helpful.

You won’t find a better place to stay at this price point. Absolutely fantastic staff, room and facilities. Bikes available for cruising around Matemwe which was our favourite part of Zanzibar.
