“Beautiful hotel for a peaceful retreat”

The bungalow and hotel ground are really idyllic! It’s perfect if you want a peaceful holidays. We had a couple problems with our room but tue staff was very reactive to fix the problem and compensated us each time. They offered us a free cocktail on arrival and departure, which was really nice and the restaurant is very good, even if a bit pricey… The pool is really nice and the staff was really friendly.

“Perfect for switching off and relaxing”

We had a great stay at Marafiki Beach Hotel & Spa and it was the perfect place to unwind after travelling around Tanzania. Our flight into Zanzibar was delayed and the staff were incredibly accommodating from the start. They even offered to prepare dinner in advance and have it served in our room when we arrived late after a full day of travel, which was very thoughtful. A special thank you to Halima and Magdalena for organising this. Breakfast each morning was excellent, with a set menu including omelettes, fresh fruit and a basket of freshly baked breads and pastries. There was always a fresh juice of the day, flavoured water, good coffee and a great selection of teas. The quality was consistently high throughout our stay. The restaurant staff were fantastic, especially Moses, who took the time to chat with us and even greeted me in Chichewa, which was a lovely personal touch. He also regularly checked in to make sure everything was going well. We stayed in Room 6, which had beautiful views and everything we needed. It also had the best in-room coffee we had during our 15 days travelling in Tanzania. The hotel itself is very peaceful. The beach is right beside the resort and perfect for walks or swimming depending on the tide. There are two lovely pools (one near the bar and one near the restaurant), and the calm atmosphere made it easy to fully relax. The team also helped organise excursions to a spice farm and Stone Town, with everything clearly explained and priced in advance. Overall, a very comfortable stay with excellent staff, good food and a relaxing environment.

Marafiki exceeded all our expectations. The room was absolutely fantastic and the bed was very comfortable, ensuring a great night's sleep. The location is unbeatable, you are literally just three steps away from the ocean. ​The food was a highlight for us; the breakfast was incredibly good every single morning, and we loved the atmosphere at the beach bar. But what truly makes this resort special is the staff. They are so kind and go above and beyond to make your stay unforgettable. We enjoyed every single moment here. Highly recommended!

“Super winter break hotel.”

Beautiful place on quiet beach. We stayed in the villa with private pool, which was well worth it with our combination of adult children, one single one with a partner. Sophisticated yet casual it had a charm of its own. Several little local restaurants on the beach nearby too. Would thoroughly recommend.

We had a wonderful stay and especially loved the amazing staff, who were always friendly, attentive, and helpful. The food was delicious with a great variety of options. A real highlight was the complimentary entertainment program, including activities like yoga sessions, cooking classes, and reef walks – such a great addition to the overall experience. The rooms were nice and comfortable, with very good air conditioning. We also appreciated the reliable power supply – even when there was a power outage, the generator started within less than a minute, so there was barely any interruption. The facilities were beautiful and well maintained, with great pools and a lovely beach bar offering direct access to the beach, which made the whole atmosphere very relaxing.

“Unforgettable stay in Zanzibar!”

Perfect location to disconnect from the world, to enjoy the sun and the sea while being surrounded by lovely and friendly people. We could relax after a rough week on Safari, ate delicious food and have a wonderful drink (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) with total safety at the hotel bar, as they use filtered water even for ice-cubes. It was the perfect winter escape. We ate almost every day in the hotel and one of our favourite dinner was the Swahili one. The massage room is also beautiful and comfortable for a solo-massage or a couple one as we did once. Happiness, the lead massage therapist, is AMAZING! Also prices are not bad compared with big European cities. We also had small chats with the owner and admin team, who were always very friendly and helpful. The whole team was really EXTRAORDINARY, from Magdalena welcoming us to Samira preparing my Piña Colada and Moses making our dinners very pleasant. We're just mentioning a few of them, but you really left Marafiki already missing the people. The hotel also offers a lot of activities that you can join for free depending on your schedule. If you also want to organise an outside excursion, they have plenty of options, but you can also find other local providers at the beach. Something I want to highlight was the mosquito net. It was the best we have seen in all Tanzania: non-hole, falls perfectly and beautifully made. The room is very spacious and the water pressure in the shower is great. The beach is a 10 sec walk away, it's right in front of the hotel. The hotel has a schedule for the tides, so you can plan your swim :) The water is a bit warm for my taste. Don't miss the low tide walk with a guide, they will show you so many sea animals. We also arranged our pick-up at the airport with the hotel and it turned out to be the best decision. Our driver Chichi was also a kind of a guide, so it was a wonderful welcome to the Island and luckily, he was also the driver to take us back to the airport.

It was a wonderful stay. Hotel were relaxed there. The restaurant were good and things do there were nice: yoga, village tour, cooking class, dinner with african food and dance group. Breakfast were so good ;). Staff were very nice. We really loved our terrace wit sea and pool view. We really enjoyed this place.

“Nice and chill !”

Everything was super nice. We really enjoyed our stay . If you want to relax and disconnect this is a perfect place . Also food was amazing. If you want to have lunch/ dinner in restaurants, nice choice of really fresh and tasty food.

Great location right on Matemwe Beach. We stayed in a beachfront King Room with a balcony overlooking the beach. The room was very spacious and had great aircon and a ceiling fan. This was great for me, as I don't cope well with heat and it was very hot in Zanzibar in January. The hotel staff were all very friendly and helpful. We also arranged Stone Town pick up and airport drop off through the hotel. This was great, they charged a flat rate that was a lot better than random taxis in Zanzibar and the driver was punctual and drove very safely. The breakfast, lunch and dinner were great quality and it was a relief to be able to order wine and alcohol at a reasonable price. Zanzibar has many alcohol- free hotels, and some other hotels charge astronomical prices for a glass or bottle of wine in Tanzania. And mostly South African wines that you can buy for so much cheaper in South Africa or Australia. So Marafiki was the first hotel we stayed at in Tanzania from Serengeti to Zanzibar, that charged "normal" reasonable prices for wine. Marafiki was also the first hotel/ resort in all of Tanzania that served fresh, good quality bread. I suppose the European owners may have something to do with that as Germany and France have a great fresh bread culture. Unfortunately at all other hotels in Tanzania and Zanzibar where we stayed, even some expensive upmarket hotels...the bread was quite stale and dry. So Marafiki's fresh bread was great. The two swimming pools were also great and the free drinks vouchers on our last night at the Marafiki bar as well as some homemade soap when we checked out added a great touch. The bikes and kayak and other free activities is also a great feauture of Marafiki. I personally also loved the kitty Paka! Will definitely stay again.

“The perfect place to relax after a safari tour!”

Extremely comfortable and relaxing hotel essentially located on the beach. The staff were very friendly and kind, the food was delicious, and the extra activities are a lovely touch too - we especially enjoyed the Swahili buffet and music on our final night. Highly recommend!

Great fruit and breakfast and excellent cappuccino. Plus Large room. After checking out, You still can shower later if your flight is late on the day of leaving.
