Great place, comfortable, nice apartment, great friendly staff!

Beautiful place and great host

The hostel is quiet at night and they have nice common areas. I like the idea that they support the local community with their income. The owner tries her best to help you with anything.

“Chilled. Out of town”

Lovely place to chill, handy to use the kitchen alongside people who work there also cooking. Half way to the Cruz de apante, cross with their own trail behind the property. This is 1km up from the property, and on the other side of it down the stairs you can then go around the Cerro Apante park, a small waterfall is there. We got a quarter of the way as its a decent trek around.

The amazing surroundings! Lots of hang out spots. Hema was an amazing knowledge host. The food prepared was delicious and there’s also a well stocked kitchen

“After two months in Nica this was the place where I actually wanted to stay”

A very big property, right in the midst of the beautiful nature of the Cerro Apante (with LOTS of butterflies and birds). A lot of space/ hammocks/ tables/ chairs, lots of books/ yoga mats/ balls/ maps/ etc. Very nice climate, never really too cold or too hot. Functional kitchen. Free WiFi pretty stable. Camping possible. Nice interior design. Generally tasteful choices. Fantastic views at sundown and during the night (starry sky, fast clouds, moonlight). Matagalpa offers a nice gym at the stadium, several supermarkets, hiking opportunities without fences. Pretty much impossible to get lost. I extended. I would come back any time. Together with Jinotega is this THE place to be in Nica.

The hostel has a good programme for education children in the local community in biodiversity, bees, birds, plants. The hammock is a great place to read a book. The food was really good.

“A really sociable and peaceful place to stay, I could live there!!”

Aguali is set up high up on the Cerró Apante hill overlooking Matagalpa. It’s a nature lovers heaven, low impact development and an active sustainability teaching centre. It’s a great place to practice your Spanish, though English is also well understood. Guests arrive and try and stay in Spanish which is great. Mine is limited but improved. I started in a dorm and then extended my stay in the bungalow, I loved it there!

Nice hostel! Lovely and relaxed people who work there. Its a small hostel, so it felt like a family. Met nice people! There is a hike you can make from the hostel but for other nature places/waterfalls you need to catch a bus.

“A lovely idea.”

The station is a really good idea but a little run down. It is situated at tha top of a really steep hill with the last 300 metres on rough track so access not easy. It is pretty and quiet , the breakfasts are good.

Really stunning place set high above the town in a beautiful natural environment. My room was well equipped and comfortable. The staff were very helpful. Getting there is difficult and I think the property could do more to help. The property is over 200m above the last place with tarred roads which is the furthest a taxi can reach. Some taxis won't take you there and most overcharge. Perhaps the property could have an arrangement with 1 or 2 taxis at a fixed price. The immediate area is not safe at night. 2 guests were attacked by a gang during my stay

What a beautiful enchanted place. I really wish I could have stayed longer. The manager, Emma was very nice, easy going and helpful, she shared a lot of good info with me. The dorm was clean and spacious. Filtered water is available for free, they can cook wholesome meals or you can use the well equipped kitchen. It's out of town but totally worth it.

Especially the people working here were super lovely. We forgot something in the room and they even brought it to our next place!

If you are looking for a quiet calm place in nature this is your place. Helpful staff, good food, quick responses to questions, affordable. It is an uphill walk to the hostel as it is located on the hillside above the town.

Beautiful gardens with lots of bird life. Lovely eco friendly philosophy. Staff are very helpful, friendly and really trying to do their best by the environment. There’s a school and we got to know some local guides that were very knowledgeable about the local nature. We had a fridge in our wee cottage.
