Quiet, Magical remote location

Location, the simplicity of the accommodations and the cleanliness of the grounds, common areas and our cabana. The owners and staff were very responsive and helpful on the couple of occasions we required them.

“Tropical paradise.”

It’s a bit of a hike to get there and it’s more Robinson Crusoe than Sandals but if you don’t mind roughing it a bit it’s a nice tropical getaway. Watching full moon rise over the ocean was magical. The island is very undeveloped which is great. Some excellent restaurants and bars nearby.

“Idyllic cabins in nature”

Such stunning huts, so disconnected from the outside world but immersed in nature. The whole place is very clean. Friendly staff - there was no evening dinners being served during our stay, which we didn’t realise, but Derek was kind enough to serve us some pasta and a beer when we arrived hungry and hot! The pasta we were served, and breakfasts we had, were all delicious. Lots of animals - the parrot and puppy special favourites!

“Be warned: you might want to stay forever!”

If you are looking for peace, relaxation, space, freedom and honest contact with people, Derek's Place is the place for you. The airy cabañas are furnished with great attention to detail. You live in the middle of nature, between the forest and the sea, in community with different people and animals. Yes, sometimes the electricity goes out. Yes, sometimes there isn't water for a moment, but that's how the Robinson Crusoe experience is authentic. There is so much to discover on the large grounds and on the paths through the forest or along the beach. Anna, Derek and family are very warm people with whom we quickly felt comfortable and at home. The breakfast is great and dinner with everyone who wants to join is a nice and culinary way to get together. The on-site dive center is also great with breathtaking dive spots right outside the door, experienced guides and good equipment. We are happy to have experienced such a relaxed stay on the island through Derek's Place. That's why we stayed twice as long as originally planned.

Derek and Ana gave us a very warm welcome and helped with organising a private boat to and from the island (since the ferry schedule isn't back to pre-corona, yet). The location is an absolute paradise. Breakfast was great and good value for money. Great dive instructor on site as well. The cabanas are lovely, as is Ana's handmade shampoo/conditioner/soap. We also loved the eco-friendly showers.
