The Hotel is ran by a very welcoming and nice family. Very affordable with breakfast included.They were very helpful and calming.The location is perfect, less than 5 mins walk to the beach and the best part of L'escala beach front. Highly recommend.

“Nice hotel with parking located away from L’Escala’s main tourist area”

My trip around parts of the Barcelona & Girona provinces was primarily to visit the small towns & villages in the area. However, I thought I ought to pay a visit to the Empúries Roman City Ruins while I was in the vicinity (not impressed to be honest) and found Hotel Can Català located nearby. It was damned good value too. Having eventually found & paid for parking, I dragged my case up the hill and checked in, only to be told that they have a free car park at the rear. (Yes, I know now; it says so on the website). I moved my car there later. The hotel was OK & bustling but I just didn’t feel comfortable from the instant I stepped inside. It was slightly dowdy but there was nothing wrong with the room, the friendly & helpful reception, the breakfast included in the price & the free car park. Very odd. There was no restaurant but Booking says there are a number in the surrounding streets; Google Maps shows four reasonably close. However, I thought I’d walk down to “the beach”, naively thinking I’d find a nice promenade with a few bars & restaurants. Yep, nice promenade but not a sign of life, never mind a bar or restaurant, whichever way I looked. Seems I should have walked down past the ajuntament to Platja de la Riba. As I trudged back up the hill I looked along each side street to see if I could spot a restaurant, and passing the one I’d already seen on my way to the beach (the one which closes at 4.00pm most days, this being one of the days!! I asked the hotel receptionist but all she could suggest was “Chinese?” No thanks. “A bar with some tapas 200 meters away should be open”. That’ll have to do. Actually it was right up my street.

The location is excellent allowing you to cover the whole of L' Escala by walking or on the road train (Ting Ting). The nearest beach is a 4min walk. Parking is a huge bonus.

Exactly as detailed in the description of the place. Clean, tidy, the room is quiet, modern and well-equipped. The staff are the owners. A nice and welcoming person. The location is excellent. Very close to the center of the old city. Across the street is a pharmacy and a supermarket
