“A fantastic, individual stay! Would recommend”
Amazing location right on the river in the jungle. So individual and such a special experience. Felt very remote and we loved it! The bathroom was fantastic- built right into the rock! Loved the sound of the jungle at night. Lovely dogs on the property and helpful staff. We had dinner every night family style for Q80 and breakfast for Q50. Great cooking. You can rent kayaks and the owner will help with booking tours and onwards travel

For a start, this is a review for FINCA TATIN because on arrival at last Palmeras del Rio, and finding nobody at home, we were collected by a small boat and taken, somewhat bewildered, to their sister hotel across the lake and around the corner. Apparently we were the only ones booked to stay at Las Palmeras so it made sense to move us all into one place. This was both a blessing - we loved the new place - but also not ideal, because after weighing up the attributes of both places previously we decided on Las Palmeras for various reasons. We had no choice in the change of venue and weren't especially happy about it at first. This is why I've dropped them a star. The place is truly lovely though, and I would have stayed much longer. Unfortunately the weather wasn't great, with heavy rain at night and chilly evenings, but they have a very welcome wood-heated sauna. Who knew you'd need a sauna in a tropical rainforest? The chill out areas are beautiful, wooden, surrounded by jungle and full of hammocks. There are plenty of activities to keep you busy during the day from boat trips to kayaking to hiking, or there's even a gym. Falling asleep to nothing but jungle sounds is magic. The staff are helpful and friendly and there's a relaxed family atmosphere about the place. I was quite reluctant to leave.

“Overall we had a great stay, but the place felt a little neglected.”
Lovely location and beautiful gardens and scenery all around. Very sweet dogs provided a lot of entertainment. Appreciated the lovely staff for all their work arranging boats, kayak rental, meals, running the bar, offering advice on activities, and generally doing their best to keep on top of everything. The lunch and breakfast were good. Bed was comfy!

“Great food and hosts”
We had a lovely stay at the hotel. The guys working there are really nice and helpful. We eat vegetarian and the cook made varied, healthy and delicious meals every morning and night. The host is really friendly and helped us to plan fun things to do in the river, but the hotel is also nice to just chill out for a day.

“More basic than expexted but had a great time”
We actually stayed in the owners other place (Finca Tatin) close to Palmeras since there was an issue with a water pipe and a tree. We were promised more comfort for the same price. We didn’t see Palmeras, but Finca Tatin was quite run down tbh. Our little bungalow (which had 2 floors) was very basic which was fine, the shower was so shabby that it looked dirty and in desperate need of some renovation. They also offer a gym and a padel court. Nice addons, It all looked past its glory days though. The location is wonderful, alongside a small river in the middle of the jungle. Despite the shabbiness we had a lovely stay there. The staff very friendly and helpful. The shared space where you can hangout and have drinks and food is really nice (and really not run down at all). It’s easy to book transport and activities and it’s all well organized.

We couldn't stay at Palmeras but were welcomed at their 2nd location Finca Tatin which was amazing. We loved the dining together, the facilities, the location, the friendliness of the staff. It was all just great, as well as the dinner together with the other guests. We also loved the trip to the Biotope and then kayaking back.

“Very nice, wish I was there longer. Staff is top notch!!”
Staff was incredibly friendly. My bus arrived way too late and I missed the last boat, Gaby from the staff tried everything to fix me another boat and was incredibly helpful. Unfortunately no boats were available anymore so I arrived a day later. I got an upgrade to a full bungalow and I didn’t have to pay for the first night although the conditions on booking state that a no show is full price! Rarely had such service, incredible!!! Also the place is in the on the river surrounded by jungle, very beautiful to stay!!

“Really enjoyed myself here, probably my favourite place so far in Guatemala. Thank you to all who made my stay so specia”
I can’t actually comment on Palmeras del Rio because I didn’t stay there; they were closed for renovations I think but I was taken to Finca Tatin not far away and it was amazing. Jaime was an absolute star. He speaks amazing English and is so approachable. He made sure I had all I needed for my stay. Joanna is an amazing cook and I really enjoyed the food - homecooked fresh bread was such a bonus! Loved the boat trip up the river to the waterfalls, thank you David! The kayaking was so peaceful. Swimming in the river in the rain was a real highlight for me. The hot springs were amazing also, had them all to myself!

I have definitely never stayed anywhere this beautiful before! This is an amazing place nestled in the forest with the perfect dock/seating area onto the river - I could have spent much longer here than we did. We had one of the private rooms which was great, and the indoor/outdoor bathroom was ingenious (and very clean). I really enjoyed the communal dinner as it was a nice way to meet new people arriving each day - and the food for all meals was delicious. Thank you to Victor and all of the staff for a great stay. Just be aware that the last public boat to the property is at 2:30 - after that you have to pay much more for a private boat.

“Beautiful place with amazing chill area at the river but very hot and noisy night”
The beautiful location and views! The riverside terrace and chill areas with perfect sunsets! The staff was very friendly and helped to organise our days. The food was tasty and we found it reasonably priced (40-60 for lunch, 80 for dinner). The cute animals are a plus if you like that. We really liked the vibe of the place, met lovely people and had a great time by the river!

“Overall amazing - we’ve recommended this place to all our mates going to Rio Dulce!”
The place is absolutely gorgeous! So relaxing (and we aren’t the relaxing type) and chilled. Staff were great, the chefs are incredible and the family style dinners were so great every night - up there with the best food we had in Guatemala! Plus they have an incredibly cute puppy

“Best place we've stayed in LatAm.”
-Staff: extremely knowledgable, friendly, funny, and helpful. -Food/drinks: absolutely excellent. I was really impressed with every meal we had, as well as the mixed drinks we tried. Reasonable prices for everything. Bonus points for the delicious fresh bread made on site! -Atmosphere: they really thought of everything--tons of great spaces to relax, hammocks to sleep in, places to charge your gadgets, free drinking water, kayaks to take out whenever you want, etc. And the dogs/kittens they have are of course a great bonus, too!

“Beautiful stay but tough night sleep due to heat & noise”
- Awesome setup by the lake: best place to chill I’ve seen in the area, with a double-decker lounge, hammock, nice benches and seats. You can even jump in the water from the top. - Overall beautiful property and lots of places to sit, hang out and marvel at the beauty of the surroundings - Food was good and prices seemed fair to us (80 for dinner, 50-70 for lunch, 50 for breakfast) - Organising trips, renting kayaks and planning activities from here was easy and the staff helped everyone to plan their next day every evening - The property was easy to reach with their boat shuttle that goes twice a day from both Rio Dulce and Livingston (50 from Livingston, 90 from Rio Dulce) - The owner is the same as Finca Tatin, so we could also visit and hang out there during the day - If you like dogs, Baloo the dog is hilarious: he’ll jump in the water and swim with you
